just did online check-in

I just finished doing our online check-in. Thanks to everyone here for encouraging me to do that. I'm no wizard with computer stuff, and I was a little leery of trying it, but you were right, it's a piece of cake! laugh

I tried calling the reservation guys right after I did it, to request a specific building (the mansions at POR), but apparently, if you book through AAA, CAA, etc., the file is locked, and the Disney people can't reopen it to do that. I know our agent DID request the mansions, so Disney said that's as good as calling them with the request. Just thought I'd pass that along - make sure your agent makes any requests you have when you book, if you go that route.

One week to go! yay

yay

Good tip on the room requests when booking through AAA or CAA. I can't remember if I had my agent put the request in for me. I'll have to remember to ask her next I make a payment.

No none what so ever. You can't get any better prices from agents then you can yourself going directly through Disney.

That's what I thought too. I called to see if they could give me a better rate on tickets once, but they quoted me the exact same price as Disney. Plus I was going to have to pay some kind of processing fee or something. It wasn't much, but not worth it.

Thanks to all of you. I have always booked through WDW. I just received a message from a friend in line at Soarin. I am jealous.

I booked our honeymoon trip through AAA. Little did I know that I could not edit, change or do ANYTHING to our reservations unless we went through AAA. If I would have known that information before hand, I would have never booked through AAA. Our agent even gave me my "Disney reservation" numbers so if I had to call I could. Well the day before we checked in, DH decided he wanted to try to upgrade our room category. So I called Disney and was told the exact same thing, sorry, we can't access your reservation because you made it through AAA. You will have to call them and have them try to change it. I was super shocked, disappointed and irritated all at once. I sure learned my lesson. Told DH that from now on, I would make reservations directly through Disney, and we have to this day. The only thing that I got for making reservations through AAA was $100 booking credit, which was a special they offered every Jan. for their Disney showcase. And I think the price of the package may have been $100 cheaper or something like that. So the savings was minimal and definately NOT worth the hassle.

Actually, there CAN be benefits. In our case, CAA (the Canadian version of AAA) offered the same prices as Disney, PLUS a free Lion King filmcell, PLUS a discount card good for 10% off at various restaurants and stores.

Although our son is grown now, and we don't have grandchildren yet, we thought the filmcell was a fun thing. After we return home, we mail in the certificate they gave us, and we will get the filmcell about 3 weeks later. If we ever DO get grandchildren, we will have it framed and give it as a gift.

What? They were going to charge you a processing fee? eek That's why you pay membership fees, so you don't HAVE to pay extra fees! We sure didn't get charged anything extra.

According to the person I talked to at Disney, your file is locked if you go through ANY travel agent, not just AAA/CAA. I guess I don't have a problem with that, since our agent is so accessible, and all it would take to change anything is a phone call or e-mail. I did confirm with her that there was a request for us to be put in the mansions, so it's all good. We will wait and see where we end up. And really, we'll be in Disney, and that's all that really matters! yay

That's good that you have had a pretty positive experience and that you are getting those benefits! Filmcells are pretty cool! And it sounds like you have a pretty neat idea for what you are going to do with it! I guess it just depends on your personal preferences and your tolerance level for stuff. If it doesn't bother you that you can't call Disney directly to update or change anything, than it works great! For me, personally, i didn't like not having control over my own reservation. But I am really happy for you that it has all worked out!!!! And you should be able to put that discount card to good use!!!! awesome Hope you have an awesome trip!!! yay

Thanks so much. I know we will have a great time.

I guess it doesn't bother me to have to go through an agent to change our reservations, because barring an absolute emergency, we won't change anything! Before we book, I always research everything I can, and we go over every detail before we make reservations. It's hard for DH to get time off work, so we rarely do anything on the spur of the moment! Sometimes we don't use travel agents, and sometimes we do - it just depends on where we are going. I had seen advertising about the filmcell in a CAA newsletter, and just thought that was a nice bonus.
