Keeping Fit On Vacation..

Good Morning Folks..Now I'am all for working out for Disney, great idea..But when I walk over the bridge at old man river ( My name for the Sassagoula ) first thing in the morning,as the sun begins to peek it's head up, and I see a jogger with perspiration covering themselves, jogging past me, I kinda think to myself...No way...Not on vacation..My exercise is walking approx 5 miles per day round the parks...Now I'am 6" in height, and about 1 stone 7lbs over weight, but I'am on vacation..If I see a cupcake I fancy, then it's mine..I do not let food favourites ruin my trip..I'll worry about that when I get home..In fact my 10 nights in Spain last month put half a stone on me with eating out each night. ( 3 course meals ) ...I've managed to lose it by the way..Anyway,I'am curious if anyone has a fitness regime whilst on vacation, or do you have a break and worry about that when you leave the bubble..?..

Though I have a couple of Disney 5Ks under my belt, in general I don't work out while on vacation other than the 5-10 miles a day I walk. I have however been known to find myself at the spa taking advantage of the more relaxing services.

No we don't because we walk so much! After taking a pedometer one year to see how much we walk per day, we were amazed!! We walked in one day as much as 3 days of walking at home for exercise!!
We eat what we want, but I will make sure I don't eat just sugar all day!! LOL

I'm with you...I stay fit by walking in the parks. Those joggers...they probably sit by the pool.

Nothin' wrong with laying by the pool! I love my hot tub time. I keep telling my husband that we need to go on longer vacations so that I can have more non-park days.

I mostly keep fit on vacation by keeping up with my park commandos. They open and close a park each day in June 8am until somewhere between 9 and midnight each day going at full tilt. Even our "rest" days involve shopping from open until close at DTD or the Malls, but I also bring some weights and a few workout DVDs with me I must admit I don't get to them every morning but I do try and do at least a short workout every other day. And to think they call Mittens mad silly

No workout for me. I go on vacation to get away from my normal life routine. Our vacations usually consist of physical activity anyway so we are getting a solid workout of walking, kayaking, hiking, etc, depending on where we go.

I've never worked out at Disney or on the fantasy...I spent my time in the spa! haha

This last trip was the first time I didn't do any working out on vacation, Disney or otherwise. It had to do with my overall running plan, though.

But...I'm a runner. I don't just do it to offset food, or to assuage guilt. I do it because I love it and because it makes me feel good. If I go more than a couple of days without doing something, I don't feel good and I don't enjoy my time, no matter what I'm doing or where I'm going. And the running in the morning at Disney actually makes me *less* tired when I'm walking all day in the parks.

And I always eat what I want on vacation. That's what vacation is for! laugh

It depends. In WDW, of course not. I am walking for 6+ hours a day. That is more than enough. And in August, I'm also swimming. I come home after the two weeks lighter than when I started

On other trips, yeah, I keep up. Hilton Head Island I bike around the island and if I've been lazy (or if it's below 50 degrees; I go in winter), I head to the gym and ride the recumbent bike for a while. At Aulani I didn't do much, but my asthma was horrible and I really couldn't do much besides lay on the beach and by the pool (so horrible I know Wink )

Vacation is one of the few times where I don't have to worry about school or getting things done, so it's an excellent time to get back into shape.

Well considering that according to various sources, park guests on average will walk about 10-15 miles a day, well, there's your exercise right there! But I mean, you're also standing a lot in lines or shopping and everyone knows you burn more calories standing up than you do sitting down! There's not a really strict exercise regime per say but I do need to know my limitations so that if I need to take a break, by all means, I should do it. Food wise, I try to spice it up so that I'm not always eating you know, burgers, fries and pizza all the time. And more importantly, keeps my taste buds interested. Additionally, it's water all the way in the parks. Caffeine and heat are a bad combination and my stomach has paid the price for that on a few occasions! Honestly, I'm more concerned about surviving in the Florida heat because as a whole, I don't thrive at all when the weather is too hot. Weather wise, low 80s to mid 80s is my limit of temperature tolerance. Anything 90 or above, I will melt down both physically and emotionally! gaah So don't expect me or try to make me go to Disney World during the dog days of summer. Large crowds + Hot Weather = Not worth it for me!
