Make Me Want to See Tron

While I'm intrigued by all the buzz...I will admit to you, dear Disney friends...I don't get it. Is this just another pic that calls up the nostalgia of our youth (for those of you, like me, that were born before 1980 Smile ) What can you say that will make me want to see Tron? I vagely remember the first one being out, but I didn't actually see it.

On the other hand, kudos to Disney for bringing out a princess (Tangled) and a sci fi movie around the same time...something for everyone Smile

I was literally about to start this thread yesterday. I have been reading about all the hype on DisZines & DisMarks for months and I just. don't. get. it.

I have no idea what TRON is, why it's important or what it's even about...and I have read plenty of info on it.

Color me confused.

I can only assume that it's geared toward the same crowd that Transformers and the plethora of comic book movies have been made for...but I guess the difference is that I didn't think Tron was all that popular. To see the response, maybe there was some huge, underground, cult following...that was swelling up while I was reading Austen? Smile

Bella - I'm glad I'm not alone!

I'm still confused..is Tron a car?

I just found out my brother was actually really excited about this movie (he's 35 & remembers the show growing up). Apparently he saw a trailer and isn't sure now..he's skeptical of how good it will be.

I think Tron is a person. I'm pretty sure the original movie was out in 1982 (did I say that already...no coffee yet this morning and I can remember Smile Clearly, I need to pay at least enough attention to the buzz to know what it's about. I just remember motorcycle-ey things and fluorescent-lit body suits.

OK, you guys are hilarious! Wink Here's a primer...

Tron (from IMDB):
A hacker (Kevin Flynn) is literally abducted into the world of a computer and forced to participate in gladiatorial games where his only chance of escape is with the help of a heroic security program.

Tron:TheLegacy (from IMDB):
Sam Flynn, the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn, looks into his father's disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin's loyal confidant, father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

There aren't any cars, but there ARE LightCycles...

All you need to know to make you want to see Tron is that when the computers try to take over, you're going to want to be prepared! laugh

The best I can do is that I saw something about Tron on Tosh.O once.

I never did get it though when it was the big deal. I was too busy with my french fry addition and leisure suits.

Being a person who was born a few years but less than a decade before 1980..I will actually tell you this about the original TRON...it was THE most computer graphic movie of its time...when it came out most of us were not THAT computer savvy and was still in awe of this computer stuff and what it could do. Internet was not common place nor was computer graphics in movies..now we have it and see it everywhere..when the movie was originally made people still had to actually act...course I have a thing for nostalgia...

Bella - I was almost literally ROFL when I read your last comment. It's the same thing that happens when my uber-techie bro in law starts talking "computer speak" to me. My eyes glaze over and all I can hear from his mouth is blah blah blah. I think I'm hopeless.

Cdub - Didn't we learn that lesson from Matrix? Of course, I guess the lesson here is that TRON was Matrix before Matrix was cool Smile

and last but not least, PsychoAlice...I will be respectful of what I don't understand Smile It might be interesting to note that I never really got all the hullabaloo about gaming, either. Even when all of my classmates were busy gobbling ghosts (or whatever) on PacMan.

So...it sounds like the crowd is split, but I'm not alone. Who will be seeing it? I'll be next door, watching Tangled. It's GOT to be better than the Barbie Rapunzel!
