Keep your hands inside the vehicle at all times.

A British tourist lost two fingertips on the "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride at Walt Disney World in Florida on Thursday, according to reports in local media and on Disney blogs.

Bo Jones, communications manager of the Reedy Creek Fire Department, told ClickOrlando.com that the man lost the tips of his ring and pinky fingers on his right hand.

There is no word yet on how the accident occurred, but WDW Theme Parks wrote on Twitter that "evidently the hand was outside the boat on the drop."

(WDW Theme Parks is an independent website and not affiliated with Disney.)

The man was treated at a local hospital and the ride was shut down for at least five hours, the fan-run Doctor Disney website said.

The ride had reopened by Thursday evening.

I saw a similar discussion on FB about an hour ago and a member there swears to have spoken to a CM source who said that the incident was a boy who lacerated and broke his finger. No idea if there's any truth to that or not, but it's one of the other versions of the story floating around the interwebs tonight.

On a related note, on our trip in April (April 8 to be exact), the Peoplemover was closed for over an hour (may have been longer--we gave up waiting). We saw the CM's offload the ride and medical personnel were running up the ramp, but we were never able to pinpoint exactly what was going on. Does anyone have any info on that incident?

I read something last night about it being a boy also. Didn't something lik this happen in Paris a couple of years ago?

Several of our local new stations here in Florida are reporting it as a UK man who lost the tips of his fingers. It was on our 11pm news last night.

Last October a 5 year old little boy somehow fell into the water from the loading or unloading platform and was crushed between a boat and the platform on PoTC in Paris Disneyland. I remember reading at the time he was in critical condition but he did survive.

I'm going to assume you're talking about the man who lost his fingertips and not the little boy who was crushed. If that's the case, my reaction is *groan*

Saw kids putting their hands in the water on Small World last week - right in between the boat and the track. Mom just sat there beside her - probably did not notice. Yikes!

He had to be British!!!!!

As for the France think it was going to happen one day because the French refuse to follow the rules, they jump from boat to boat, take flash photos, stand up, touch the water, jump queues, smoke on the rides, they are a nightmare at times, bit wat cha' gunna do?

You can only babysit them for so long. (the adults I am talking about.)

Cms can only hold the hands of guests and babysit them so much before they finally have to let go, where the guest will either sink or swim, most sink. Maybe now they'll know not to do that. Sometimes guests have to learn the hard way that rules are there for a reason. Like the no climbing over or going under the ropes/chains then said person falls because they did said thing after being told not to.

It's unfortunate that this had happen.

It was just a matter of time before something like this happened. I'm always shocked at how many people (grown ups moreso than kids) can't obey simple instructions... eek USE COMMON SENSE, PEOPLE!!! confused

Disney attorneys better get ready for a lawsuit on this.
