Miss DeVine

Jess's picture posts had me going through old pics, and I came across these of Miss DeVine over at AK. We were lucky enough to spot her a few years back.

Yes, kinda! I found this description over at allears.net:

Another crowd-pleaser that you may walk past without realizing it is DiVine -- creeping kudzu never looked so good! DiVine is really a performance artist dressed in foliage from the top of her green-painted head to the bottom of her stilt-wearing toes. She rests unobtrusively against a tree or a wall, suddenly springing to life to tease an unsuspecting passerby or chase down disrespectful teenagers or others who dare make light of her art. You can find DiVine along the path from Africa to Asia.

If you are in AK and see a bunch of people stopped and staring at a tree sometime, it might be her!

Devine is really awesome. I've only seen her once and I didn't have my camera. You can find her showtimes out I think, but she just kind of "appears" on the paths in AK. Definitely worth checking out.

I have never seen her but I have always looked for her. Every time I am there she never seems to be there. I have seen video of her and she is amazing.

I find she's usually around the Flick picture area, she was there most of the day last time we were there. I think there are 7 or something like that. Made me laugh when she kicked people in the butt and then froze.

Scared the bejesus out of me the first time I saw her. I sat on a bench and she kept tickling my ear and I thought it was a bug. Never new she was there, then she started to wrap her arms around me. I think I almost pulled her off her stilts!

AHA!!! I've seen something you haven't seen. I've seen something that you haven't seen! Lalalalala llalalaalalala! biggrin

No, they were actually dressed in this outfit that looked like carved marble - it was crazy! You'd think the person was a statue, and all the sudden, he/she (can't remember which) would move! I think the "show" was in the Italy pavilion.

Hey Lizzy, yes I have seen the statues and they are great. I like them when they sit on the rim of the fountain. People sit next to them thinking they are a statue, then they move and freak them out. I'll see if I have some pictures.

Haha yay!!!! You win this round!

That is awesome though..I want to see those!!!!!

Ok..speaking of World Showcase performers..has anyone seen Miuki the candy maker in Japan? Oh my gosh..I LOVE her. She made me a pink elephant wearing a wedding veil on our honeymoon. It was delicious.

Miuki the Japanese candy artist lady made us a nice white bird for us on one of our past trips and we still have it at home. UNFORTUNATELY that is no longer possible because of some absurd regulations by some idiotic health dept. that she can no longer give out her creations and that she must destroy them after the show. If I remember right it had something to do with her not being able to wear gloves while working with the candy. She still appears and makes the creations but that's the extent of it. It's still something that should not be missed.

OH!! and you actually ATE IT.

Such great pics! And welcome!, Haven Alise!

I have never seen the candy lady (here we go again...) but it sounds ab wonderful! We'll have to look her up. It is true, Vettelover - unfortunately. There are sanitation laws that say anytime a foodservice worker is working with food that's "ready to eat" (i.e. won't be cooked or cooker further), they must wear gloves. Aggravating, yes...but with good measure. Feel free to bust them the next time you see the Taco Bell kids not wearing gloves while making your burrito.

I'm a little rusty on the laws, but that's the way it was when I was in the field. Huge pain to make delicate pastries with gloves on.

I remember seeing her several years ago and watching in amazement and what she made. I really would have loved to gave gotten a sample but it was so much fun to watch the kids watch her and get her treats.
