Mousekeeping - how much should you tip each day

On average how much should you tip Mousekeeping each day or do you wait till the end of your stay?

I leave $1-$2 per day per person.

I was wondering about this too! Kristen--Do you leave cute little mousekeeping envelopes? I've seen some really cute ones online and thought about making some if I had time, but was wondering if the mousekeepers would just think that was silly.

I do make envelopes! It's part of my regular "count down" to my vacation, tip envelope making day is always 2-3 weeks before I leave. I create some sort of custom label that says "Thank You For Your Service" in a creative manner, usually has Characters on it, our names and the dates of our vacation. I love doing tip envelopes, and it's becoming more and more common for people to put fun and creative effort into them. I don't think they would think it silly at all.

Kristen: Thanks! Do you do other cool things as part of your "countdown to your vacation"? It would be fun to build excitement to our honeymoon with other little tasks (if you have some countdown ideas you normally do and could message me them rather than clog this board, that would be great!)

I would say leave as much as you can afford and or feel comfortable with... Us personally, we usually are in a large double villa, with as many as 12 people there at one time, so our situation will be most likely be different, with a larger area to clean and keep up with but we have left as much as $20 a day before (usually less) its more of whats on us available at the time.

But we Literally, have had a lady from house keeping track us down one day after a generous tip, to thank us up and down for our generosity. You have to remember these people are paid minimum wage for the most part, and really depend on those tips to make a decent living. She was explaining on how she (and her children) essentially lives off those tips, and what we left behind for her greatly helps. It was certainly something I wont forget, I appreciated that she told us and thanked us like that, and it really makes you appreciate other things in life more.

but ya, I would just say leave what you can afford and or feel comfortable with, just remember those people count on that as part of their lively hood...

Very true. Housekeeping can be hard to determine because unlike food service and car service, there isn't a standard "you should tip this percentage of the bill" tradition in the country.

I tip every day, your Mousekeeper may change during your stay. Usually $5 a day.

Welcome moogle73 & bsqd, and your are very correct about the wages they make at Disney. Most make minimum wage. People just think because someone works for Disney, they are making a fortune. Also , mousekeeping usually only changes on the weekends. The mousekeeper we had at the Poly in November said she works the same floor, Monday through Friday and a part timer works the weekend. She also thanked us profusely for the tips we left and explained that's the biggest part of her pay some weeks. She also said anything we needed, just leave a note and we would have it that day.

We usually tip $2 a day if we have mousekeeping daily not sure what to do at the DVC as only Day 4 and 8 etc at the end of the holiday we usually leave a bigger tip to say thanks.

Although last year I think I tipped $100 instead of $1 I got a bit confused! Only time we got a thank you note back from the maid! Sadly it wasn't the Disney hotel but the 2nd week one doh!
