My first trip (I am so going back again!)

laugh We had so much fun! Tentatively tossing around the idea of going back with my sister in law and her boyfriend. I want to share the joy!

I made trip notes on my mobile while we were there. I've tried to clean up the punctuation and spelling mistakes but please excuse any I've missed. We arrived on Monday the 17th (late evening) and left on the following Saturday (21st). Using the touring plans was great, they never steered us wrong. Didn't manage to use the app because we didn't have a US SIM card at that point, although it wasn't really an issue because most lines were reasonable.

Plane got in around 8:30pm yesterday. Picked up our luggage easily but had a few problems finding the magic express. Once we got there though it was an easy trip to Animal Kingom Lodge (Jambo House). Check in took a while, because our credit card wouldn't work - we'll have to try it again tomorrow.
The room is lovely. There was a mouse towel animal in the bathroom Smile

Up early, no sleeping in!
Tried to get our credit card sorted out, no luck
Over to magic kingdom, breakfast at the main street bakery. Rob had a cream cheese bagel and I had a cinnamon scroll. Space mountain was my first ever roller coaster. Awesome. Thunder mountain three times, space mountain twice, peter pan, splash mountain, stitch escape, buzz lightyear and others.
Tea at liberty tree tavern. Rolls with honey butter and salad for starters. Beef, turkey and ham with stuffing, green beans, mashed potato, mac and cheese and gravy. The ham had a apple and mustard sauce. Must try making this at home. Delicious peach cobbler for dessert. Food was very good, nice atmosphere. The servers are very cheerful! Tried root beer. Tastes like sarsparilla I think.
Stayed late and saw wishes, then raced for the bus. Managed to get one the first one because some ladies let us through. I think they wanted to sit down on the next bus. Can't blame them - my feet are sore!
Credit card is working (bought tea just fine), just not for the disney hotel front desk. We've decided that it's probably related to it being a visa debit card and international and there's nothing we can do about that. We'll just have to take the conversion fees. It's a pain though - we can't get internet in the room at all.

Breakfast at Boma. Awesome buffet. Will have to go back and get some photos. I had a chocolate crossoint, waffle, scrambled eggs with ghosts cheese (so good!), sausage, bacon and jungle juice. Can't remember what's in the jungle juice, but it's *good*.
Caught the mears shuttle over to universal. Harry potter world is part of the islands of adventure. It was loads of fun! Went in the dragon ride first up, my first upside down roller coaster, fun! Rob calls me a roller coaster junkie now Smile Had to check our bags in the small lockers before going in. Then went to the new harry potter ride next, a motion simulator. Very good! One of the best rides, although I did feel a little queasy after.
Did the castle walk through. Cool portrait gallery, and the sequence with harry etc changed, one has snow at the end.
Wandered around, checking out harry potter world and had a butter beer. Slightly carbonated with added foam (caramel flavored). Quite tasty. Rob liked it too.
The world was very pretty and looked just like the movie.
Continue into the rest of the island.
Watched the Sinbad stunt show. Checked out jurassic park - not allowed not ride the fun one, only children and adults with short children Sad
Went on the spiderman ride which was great. Bought gifts for denton and ruth's boys. went back to jurassic park and got souvineers for mark's boys.
Back around again and went in the river ride, got soaked! Spent the rest of the time trying to dry off so the bus driver wouldn't refuse to take us home.
Caught the bus back at 4:15. Then headed to hollywood studios. Grabbed some tea (meatball sub and pepperoni pizza) from a quick service.
Followed the afternoon touring plan. Star tours was open! It was a preview, the official opening is on friday at midday. Really good! Rob was the rebel spy. Didn't realise at the time that the story changes, otherwise we would have gone on again.
Some things was closed, although nothing that we wanted to ride on. Enjoyed the Areosmith ride the best. Neither of us wanted to go up Hollywood Tower. HS was open until 10, but we were done about 9:30 and headed home.

Breakfast again at Boma. Delicious again. Took our time getting organized, Rob showered after breakfast, so we got a later start. There were lots of people at the bus stop and we missed the first bus, but another one came soon.
Animal kingdom! Followed the early arrival touring plan. Everest looked pretty intimidating but we did it any way. Possibly the best roller coaster we've been on. Went on twice. Also did dinosaur twice. The safari jeep to see the animals was pretty good too.
Finished at AK late afternoon. Caught the bus to wilderness lodge just to check it out. Caught the boat to magic kingdom, picked up some souvineers, then caught the monorail to grand floridian and the bus to downtown disney. This was the only bus that really took a long time to come.
Wandered around downturn. Visited the new lego store and the giant disney souvener store. It was a very long walk to house of blues! We came in at the far end.
Lovely meal. Had a shrimp appetiser that was fantastic. Peach iced tea to drink. Key lime pie for dessert. Didn't really need it, but it was *good*.
Wandered back, luckily not as far because the buses to the resorts pick up at a different spot. Reorganised breakfast - rescheduled tomorrows breakfast to saturday. We're having lunch at sci fi dine-in tomorrow, so don't need the massive breakfast.

Lazy morning. Headed straight to hollywood studios. Big parade, lots of people for the star wars weekend and the reopening of star tours. Didn't try to ride it again, the short wait was 75 minutes. Other lines were relatively short though - went on Rock'n'Roller Coaster again, and wandered through Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Lunch at the sci fi dine in. Had reuben sandwiches and milkshakes - delicious!
Headed out to epcot which was open until midnight. The lunges for soarin' were long and also for test track.
Did the short lines including both the green and orange versions of the space simulator. Wandered around the pavilions. Rob got beer and a pretzel from the german pavilion for tea but I wasn't hungry after our big lunch.
The mexican pavilion was pretty impressive, with a massive temple. There were some interesting educational displays too, in a number of different pavilions. Would like to return and go through then more thoroughly.
Magic hours after 9, so we caught some of the fire works and headed back to soarin. Still a long wait, probably the only disney ride that was at least the wait time specified.
Did test track next, which was fun, but not as good as I expected. It was over a bit soon.
Headed back to the french pavilion hoping to get a pastry but they were closed. Did get a caramel from the german pavilion which was excellent. Managed to get a mickey ice cream sandwich on the way out to. Left about 11:45 and managed to get the first bus home.

Breakfast at Boma. Picked up a recipe book from the store. Packed up and checked out. Had time to sit outside for a bit before catching the magical express bus back to the airport.
Caught the flight to new york, no problems. Arrived quite late in the day.
Caught the airtrain followed by the subway, then walked a bit to the hotel. Room was fine but nothing like disney.
Wandered down broadway and checked out times square. It bucketed down and we got soaked. Rather tired, very hungry and very wet. Many people! Bought a hot dog each for tea from a street vendor. They were quite small! Also got tickets to wicked for the wednesday night. Did get a bag of pick and mix m&ms though.
Headed back to the room and watched food network and ate chocolate Smile

@Bella - I'm going nuts this morning catching up on posts here and looking at all the things we could do another time. I've love to do a backlot tour and an AK trek. Or maybe one of the running events. So I have a list more than 10 things that I'd like to do next time. It would be great to go back before the end of September, because our airline status will expire then (currently we can get in to the first class lounges, which is fantastic since we travel through four airports each way). Realistically, SIL and her boyfriend won't be ready to go so soon, so it's more likely to be next year Sad

I think Magic Kingdom was my favourite park, with Animal Kingdom running a very close second. Everest was my favourite roller coaster though Smile I *loved* AKL - it would be hard to stay anywhere else I think. We had a savannah view room and the giraffes and other animals were there every morning.

Great report Smile I have stayed at AKL and I fell in love with it. My budget has not allowed me to stay my next 2 times but one day I will get back there to share the experience with my hubby. For a huge animal lover like me.... I have to make sure I visit whenever I'm on WDW property.

The first time we stayed at AKL was by accident. We had reservations for Port Orleans, but it was shortly after 9/11 and travel to Disney was down so much that they closed PO and upgraded us to AKL. We have stayed there several times since, like y'all, we LOVE it. The place I would like to stay but haven't is Boardwalk. We love the atmosphere and go all the time just to walk around. We have spent a few new years eve's there, but have never actually stayed there.

It was really an amazing trip. First trip always becomes memorable for everyone. When we went on our first trip, we had a lot of fun and we collected lot of memories from there. But we also had some problems on that tour. awesome

yep, it was the Jan. after 9/11 - Mike was running the marathon- and people weren't traveling, so they condensed resorts and closed both Port Orleans down, I'm not sure for how long. I can't remember which PO we were supposed to stay in, but I DO remember the upgrade! At the time we didn't realize what an upgrade it was as we had never stayed at AKL. We've stayed there since, but not in a long time due to our budget (Mike took a huge pay cut to teach), but we go often to visit and walk around. (we were there today for zebra domes!)

Helen, I am SO glad this got bumped up, because somehow I totally missed it when you posted back in June, and just the other day, I was wondering about you, and how you enjoyed your trip! I'm so glad it was all smooth for you, and that you had a fantastic time! I think your bravery to do all those coasters is pretty remarkable! I hope you're able to come back soon. And just a tip, which I plan to follow myself as soon as I can -even if you don't do Tower of Terror, join the queue, just to see all the cool stuff, and then you can exit before actually getting on the ride. Apparently, it's totally worth your time just to stand in line. There are some amazing, really antiques and theming that you might not want to miss.

Glad you're home safely! Can't wait to hear about your next trip mickey

That is so interesting..I don't know why that fascinates me.

Lizzie, you'll be glad you did, I forgot how good they are! I want them one more time before the end of summer! We always take a cooler w drinks, so we just kept them in the cooler, they melt super quick, so you really have to eat them right away! They were melted by the time we got to the car.

Are melted Zebra Domes as good as non-melted Zebra Domes? I'd guess they would be almost as good! laugh

Lizzy_B, I've added the tower of terror queue to my list Smile And zebra domes too!

I'm still holding out hopes of going back this year. The hubby will be over for work in September but I can't get away Sad October may still be possible though. MNSSHP will be running then, and free dining too, so fingers crossed.

You know they have them all year round right?

I know they have them all year, it's just that we are both teachers so it is so much easier to get up there during the summer. Once school starts, we're back to work and the kids all have all their sports and we don't get there as often.

And yes, they're still good melted, just very messy, especially in the car, glad I grabbed napkins.
