My little project

Hey ladies and gents. I hope you are all well. I thought I would post a link to my little disney design project www.disney52.tumblr.com I'm watching one film a week and producing an illustrated quote, I will be doing this until my parenting trip please if you have a favorite quote, leave a comment and I will try my best to include your ideas Smile

what a cool idea! It's a little long, but I like "Sword of truth fly fast and sure, that evil die and good endure" from Sleeping Beauty. Here's a painting that I did for a friend last year with the quote:

And mrferett here's the list Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, Bambi, Saludos Amigos, The Three Caballeros, Make Mine Music, Fun and Fancy Free, Melody Time, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians, The Sword and the Stone, The Jungle Book, The Aristocats, Robin Hood, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, The Rescuers, The Fox and the Hound, The Black Cauldron, The Great Mouse Detective, Oliver & Company, The Little Mermaid, The Rescuers Down Under, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Mulan, Tarzan, Fantasia 2000, Dinosaur, The Emperor's New Groove, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Lilo and Stitch, Treasure Planet, Brother Bear, Home on the Range, Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons, BOLT, Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Winnie the Pooh, Wreck-It Ralph

We now own all 52 on DVD, the sad truth is some of these movies aren't great and at the moment I have 6 weeks of unknown films before I get to Cinderella. But got news is it's pretty much plane sailing then till the dreaded black cauldron.

I have two favorites from Alice in Wonderland, that are short enough. One is "Curiouser and Curiouser"
and the other is "We're all Mad Here."

The Little Mermaid, I like the quote "don't be such a guppy."

Beauty and the Beast my favorite quote is "Gaston, you are positively primeval." This one might be too long.

I recently watched all of my Disney animated movies in chronological order, but I was spared the horror of the Black Cauldron and other "misses" because I have a few strategically placed holes in my Disney dvd collection. Good luck plodding through the "lesser" of the collection wink

Sorry mrferett TNBC isn't an animated classic in fact disney have only really started branding it as their movie after the early 00's merchandise boom and cult following. Before then it was known as Tim burton presents TNBC.

Alicemouse how many did you watch? The reason we are watching them all is to get a greater understanding of the company and the parks as their is almost a reference to each of them within the parks, the misses are okay I'm glad I've seen black cauldron as it's a turning point in the company and after watching the "waking sleeping beauty" documentary it makes little mermaid and beauty and the beast better. My favorite films are mid career Walt films like Alice, Peter Pan ect and ones art directed my Mary Blair or my childhood like little mermaid, beauty and the beast, Aladdin all the way to Tarzan The war time films are fun too the ones I dread are the post 2000 films like Fantasia 2000, home on the range, chicken little, treasure planet. As these are neither from my childhood or Classic Walt.

Thanks, Angie mickey

Phil, I LOVE Waking Sleeping Beauty! I'm reading "The Disney War" right now as a followup. It was really interesting in the beginning, but I'm about half way through and it's dragging a bit. I'm not giving up because I think all of the tedious details that I'm reading will eventually have a point. The book goes through the loss of Frank Wells and the Katzenberg debacle just like the documentary does and I am just finishing the segment on Michael Ovitz's short tenure. I'm anxious to see where we're going next...

We must be fairly close to the same age because I turned 8 the year that the The Little Mermaid was released (although I didn't see it until I was in college *gasp* when I watched it for a paper I was writing on Disney yay). I love Alice in Wonderland (hence my username) and pretty much any other animated feature from the 1950's. I actually saw Fantasia2000 for the first time about 2 years ago and I have to admit that I think I like it slightly better than Fantasia! I think a driving force behind that is the inclusion of George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" which is one of my favorite pieces of classical music ever and that it still contains "The Sorcerer's Apprentice."

My current animated collection is: Snow White, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, Bambi, Melody Time (I bought Melody Time for the short "Once Upon a Wintertime"), Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland*, Peter Pan, Lady & the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty*, 101 Dalmatians, Aristocats, Robin Hood, Fox & the Hound, Oliver & Company, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Hunchback of Notre Dame*, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tarzan, Fantasia 2000, Lilo & Stitch, Chicken Little, Tangled*, Wreck-It-Ralph*. (*favorites) Princess & the Frog is on its way from Disney Movie Club. Most of my 2000's stuff is Pixar. I know where you're coming from with some of the recent stuff. Most of the "Disney classic" 2000's movies just look too kid-oriented for me to even sit though them--Bolt? Home on the Range? Brother Bear? No thank you!

Have you seen the "Walt Disney Treasures" collections of animated shorts and other interesting pieces from the vault that were released in the 2000's? I have one called "On the Front Lines" collection, which you would probably love. It has some great classic war era cartoons, information about how the Disney company aided in the war effort by making training films and educational shorts, and some really neat old war propaganda shorts. This is a really cool series and has other volumes called "Disneyland USA" and "Behind the Scenes at Walt Disney Studios" that give great intros into some of the players who made Disney great. These were limited edition releases and some were quite popular and are very expensive to buy on the resale market. Some you can pick up very inexpensively on Amazon or eBay.
