Via Napoli Pizza by the slice!

I just saw on the Disney Food Blog that Via Napoli will begin offering pizza by the slice at a pick-up window!

It IS a Merry Christmas! I knew there were rumors but I am glad it is becoming reality. I love good pizza but the thought of paying an obscene amount for an entire meal with an eighteen month old..would never happen. I was afraid we'd miss it!

My only hope is that it's popular enough to become permanent!

I hope they keep this up! We haven't tried it yet but I've heard good things! I love all the new food places at Epcot. That caramel shop in Germany is TO DIE FOR!

Boy isn't that the truth, I muchlove that caramel shop. When the first opened they were giving away free samples of their caramel corn, deelish, and I am wondering if they are still doing that, anyone know?

It's always so mobbed when I've been there - I think the word is out! They were giving free sample bags out to AP holders in November, but it was for a limited time. I want to try one of those cupcakes! And the caramel pecan squares are TOTALLY AWESOME. Did you see the caramel brick thingies that you can take home for your own baking pleasure? I'm afraid I would probably just carve hunks off and eat it though...but hey...there's an idea! Make your own caramel popcorn! Yum!

Yes, Via Napoli for a slice, and onto Germany for a dessert. Who needs an ADR? awesome

I just saw this review and I am sad! The lack of variety at the window is disappointing as well..bummer! And $6.50..for a slice of cheese pizza......wow!

It is quiet gross..does anyone else shudder when they walk by Pizza Planet? That place could be SO awesome if they invested in good pizza. Or even mediocre pizza..someone needs to call Papa Johns and talk about a deal or something.

I don't remember pizzafari being TOO bad...but I may be remembering wrong. Perhaps I am simply repressing an awful pizza experience. It's hard to imagine how a combination of 3 of the worlds best ingredients - bread, tomato and cheese - could really go that badly!

What kind of pizza options do you have in the UK?

There's loads of pizza options in the UK, varying from really awful to very good. Italian restaurants are popular over here, and as I live in a fairly big city there's plenty of places to choose from. I think with my pizzafari comment it is just me not remembering properly - it was 3 years ago now!

What are they like where you are from? Where ARE you from, actually?

I'm from Dallas and we have a local chain called Campisi's that's pretty good, but it's pretty different from typical pizza. Definitely not "authentic." We don't have very good New York style pizza for the most part, but there's a place or two that can make it. Of course Dallas is a big city so we have lots of chains and lots of mom and pop places, but Via Napoli is really good. Not sure how "Italian" their style is. I'd love to hear someone from Italy's opinion. (Or maybe you British folks have tried Italian pizza?)

You know, I'm a little sad about the "bad" pizza that everyone has gotten in the parks. I guess I never got pizza to know that it's sub par...but I can tell you that the Contemporary room service pizza, at least when I worked there, was 100% from scratch, from the crust up. They were amazing. I know. Because I made them. Authentic? Probably not. But a nice, lightly sauced, hand-tossed version.

Bella - I haven't seen any non caramel options in the caramel shop. Smile

I've had pizza in Italy. To be honest, I was a little disappointed! It was nice, but I think I had built up really high standards for it in my head that it probably couldn't actually live up to. Plus I had just come from Paris, which is renowned for it's incredible food, and the last meal I had there was probably the best pizza I have ever had in my life. In fact, the best food I have ever had in a Disney park was also in Disneyland Paris. We went to a restaurant actually inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride (so you can see the boats float past) and, pretty interesting atmosphere aside, the food was so nice! I recommend that place, if any of you ever find yourselves in Disneyland Paris!

They have on in Disneyland in Anaheim that's in PotC as well, it's called Blue Bayou. What kind of food do they serve in the DLP version?

The Contempo Cafe! It is still the best I have had.

Peg - Yes - do tell about the POTC restaurant at DLP! What is the menu like? I really want to get there someday. We honeymooned in Paris and want to return so badly. I'm afraid that DH will balk at the idea of going all the way to Paris only to go to Disney though Smile

Jeff - that does look like a tasty pizza!

DSoup & Lizzy - I can't remember what was on the menu except for what I had because it was 3 years ago now. The best thing we had was the starter, and this is a pretty useless response because I don't really remember what it was exactly, but I'm not sure I knew at the time either! It was various kinds of breads with these fancy dips...I think one was some sort of incredible cheese that i hadn't had before...one was...I have no idea...it looked kind of grey but tasted amazing...and then there was balsamic vinegar & oil etc. The main was jus a pasta dish, but a really good one. Lots of vegetables, pine nuts and really nice cheese. Maybe I should go back again to refresh my memory wink

Lizzy - We only went to Disneyland one day, then spend another 5 days in the rest of Paris (and to be honest, 5 days was enough really. We felt we had seen everything there we wanted in the remaining 5). Since you would be going all the way from the US then you would probably want to stay more than a couple of days anyway, so might as well throw in a Disneyland visit biggrin

Good point. We were there for 5 days and stayed mainly to the typical touristy areas - Eiffel Tower and Left Bank Stroll, Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur, the Louvre, and lots of walking and eating at bistros. DH found an AMAZING little hotel just off of the Champs Elysees, so we were ideally situated to walk and walk and walk. I loved the bridges and Ile de la Cite. Oh, and Fauchon! I wasn't leaving Paris without going there! Next time, we want to see a bit of the countryside too, and we'd love to go to Versailles as well.

I've always thought it was very strange to have DLP so close to such an amazing city. It seems really hard to justify spending time in a Disney park when all that history is right outside. Orlando and Southern California don't hold the same merits in my book (no offense to either, but I'd think that arguing either city compared to Paris would be rather laughable), and so make sense but Paris seems like an odd choice.

Probably because it's so centrally located, too? To be honest, my love of Paris grew out of our trip there. We didn't start out saying, "Let's plan a trip to Paris." We were actually looking at very different destinations, but kept noticing how incredibly cheap airfare to Paris was (comparatively, and this was in 2001.) It seems to be a hub of sorts? But I'm far from knowledgeable about world travel. Just a guess. And then maybe incentives to build there v. somewhere else. And DLP is born.

As I understand it, transport links were a major factor when deciding where to build a European Disney park. A number of French motorways pass close by and with the Eurostar train service, it's under 3 hours from London.
