The NATO summit is ending as we speak. The president is giving his closing remarks. I can say I'm glad that this is just about over and the city of Chicago got by relatively unharmed. I'm all about the freedom of speech, the right to assemble, and everything else that goes with it. However, for those of us living here there was definitely worry about what may and could happen.
My question to ya'll is this. How were the protests televised in other areas? Were they televised at all?
I have a friend who is an officer and was down on the front lines. He said this: 99% of the protestors were peaceful, in a great mood, and responded well to the police direction. They understood that they were trying to keep everyone safe. But all we saw on TV were the handful on the other end of spectrum, the extremists. Those people were ruining the "fun" for everyone.

and that's what most of the news covered here. In the past the cities that have held the NATO summits have undergone a lot of riots and protests and with how "hot" the occupy movement is right now there was a huge threat that we would feel some of those riots here. Fortunately, the mood stayed positive for the most part. With only about 45 arrests (last i heard, don't know what the count is actually at now) out of the thousands and thousands that showed up for the rallies.
