A new experience at WDW!!

Not too much info on this as yet BUT I know what I would like to take for a spin (not literally) around the track.

It's manufactured by Corvette of course. Anyone ever heard of a ZR1 ??

I haven't, but it sounds interesting! Is it something you think you'd leave the parks to do? Have you ever done any of the Richard Petty Driving Experience stuff?

Yes I would leave the parks to to this in a heartbeat. Both DW and I have gone there to do the race car ride-a-long experience and it took three days to wipe the smile off our faces. This new experience should be even more fun. There is nothing yet on the type of cars they will have to use, I only HOPE they have a Corvette ZR1 in their lineup. For the Corvette novices I should explain (without going into a huge explanation) that a ZR1 is a limited production Vette, fully street legal, with a base sticker price of $110,300 with a HP rating of well over 600hp and a 0-60mph time of 3.4 seconds. They even have a program where you can go to the factory in Bowling Green and actually help build the engine that goes into your car,
OK OK I will shut up about it now, I could talk about this car all day. The first pic is me stuffing myself into the race car, and the 2nd is wifey getting suited up for her "ride".

Wow, VL, great pics! I've always loved that M&M car Smile

Your enthusiasm is infectious - I really hope you get to do this! And did I see that they're trying to come up with a different name? I hope so. Project Exotic doesn't sound at all Disney or family friendly imho lolololol

Thanks for sharing about this! I'll watch for local news on it.

Vette, are you talking about Bowling Green, Ohio? I worked in Findlay (which isn't far from there) one summer in college and I just LOVED that part of the country. I was convinced I was going to graduate and move back to Findlay for awhile! I never did...obviously.

Okay, but I just realized that you weren't necessarily there so that makes my entire comment irrelevant.

No sorry Bella but I was talking of Bowling Green Kentucky where the Corvette assembly plant is located.

I've done this sort of thing in the UK with one of my dream cars, a V12 Aston Martin DB9 (007's car). The whole experience is very dependant on your instructor on the day, get a good one and you'll have a whale of a time.

I'd love to do some of the Driving Experience stuff, but price and having to drag myself away from the parks is a bit of an issue.

Vettelover, given the choice of a ZR1 or this one I snapped a few weeks ago, which would it be?
(btw. it was doing around 100mph at the point the pic was taken)

Tough choice Tony BUT if the choice was strictly limited to a closed circuit track I would choose the pictured one due to the fact that it is race prepared. But it would not be suitable for the street, so on the street I would pick the ZR1 simply because, it can be street driven. How was your time with the DB9, and you're not getting away without telling me your opinion of the ZR1.

The DB9 was incredible, I've never felt so much torque and for something so large it really shifted and was very easy to drive at 5/10ths which would still be enough to get you into a lot of trouble on UK roads. The one I drove had the semi-automatic gearbox which took a while to get used to as there was a bit more delay than I expected between operating the paddle and the car changing gear. 3 laps of a two mile track simply wasn't enough.
The instructor I had was a bit of a wuss (hence why I mentioned them in previous post) and wanted me to change up much earlier than I wanted to at about 4.5k rpm; the redline set at over 6k. He told me off for braking hard into the apex of a chicane too and muttered something about spinning the car if I wasn't careful. The car felt completely stable from where I was sitting though.

My biggest dissapointment was the brakes. Initially they felt like someone had shoved a couple of wooden blocks into the callipers instead of pads. I can only assume that previous drivers that day had been too gentle with them and started to cook the pads as they were starting to feel better after a few laps. Braking too late/hard was something else I got told off about, but I was actually having to get back on the throttle and drive up to the corner after braking.

OK OK I will shut up about it now, I could talk about this car all day.

I remember some of the noise (laugh) when the ZR1 was launched. Anything with that much power has to be interesting especially if the chassis is tight enough to handle it. I like that the styling hasn't been overdone compared to the standard models as the current 'vette has a very clean shape (as do the current Aston's).
Unfortunately, we don't see many Corvette's over here, so the chance of seeing a ZR1 is almost nil.

In a desperate attempt to get back on topic...

If they can avoid instructors who have the attitude of the one I had with the DB9 and find some who will teach you to really drive the car, they should be on to a winner.
