New FASTPASS?

So today, my boyfriend came across this article:
http://www.wdwmagic.com/Other/FASTPASS/News/06Feb2012-Big-changes-coming-to-FASTPASS-in-March.htm

Basically, it says that they are actually going to enforce fastpass times. 5 mins early to 15 mins late is all you have to use it. I'm guessing its just a rumor so far, as I haven't heard Disney announce it...but how does this make everyone feel?

And what are the NextGen fastpasses they are talking about I wonder?

This makes me almost feel tied down to not riding anything or getting in line just so I can make sure I don't miss my fastpass...

It would definitely ruin some of my strategies if a FASTPASS didn't work after it's range. We rely on that quite a bit.

I actually have never tried to use FASTPASS after the range, have they always been pretty lenient with it?

It won't affect us at all. When we get FastPasses, we plan on returning within the time window.

Same here, although we have been 5 minutes over once or twice.

We have routinely come back well after and never had any problems. Maybe we're the problem that's causing them to change the system?

I must be the problem too, Brad. I'm the type to get one that morning for something and not use it until that night when I actually get around to riding it!

I don't ever recall returning for my fastpass after the alloted time, except for one time that we did it just to see if they would accept it after the stated time, and of course they did. So I don't think it will impact us too severely.

Not an impact for us - we tend to use 'em within the window provided. I don't think I ever realized they were lenient like that.

I haven't used FP too often. I did try going a couple of minutes early once and had to wait.

One thing I will say is that usually if the park is busy enough that Fastpasses are a necessity we don't hang around too long.

We always use them for the time alloted... Didn't know you could use them for other times. We've actually thrown fast passes away because they were expired

We routinely use them past the alloted time, especially for the more popular attractions. If we get a Soarin' Fastpass at 10:30 that has a retrun time of 2:00, we may leave EPCOT and head back to the room for some pooltime, or head to a pre-established lunch ADR at a resort restaurant. Sometimes we won't return for a few hours after the return window officially expires. This really works for us, as we like to be as flexible as possible.

I doubt it will impact us much. We're always anxious to use it during the window, in case we want to get another FP for something else. But it's good to know. I've always thought it was kind of a good thing that they let you come back whenever, like it helps to disperse the crowds a bit, but maybe not.

Yeah... and like my wife has said. Were always there right when the pass can be used. Ive never been able to use the pass earlier either. And yeah... we have thrown many of fast passes away. So yeah... this wont affect us either. Plus anyways.... the time period we go... we rarely need them, really only for Toy Story Mania.

I believe that Disney is working on technology that allows guests to book fastpasses before they even arrive at the park, say from their hotel room, or even from home. The rumor about XPass has even talked about a "paid" pass - I'm not sure if it's just a situation where only resort guests can use it, or you pay extra with your ticket. Either way, the feedback from the public (Disney fans) has been pretty negative, in that it creates different "classes" of park guests.

I actually always followed the times on my fastpasses before now, so this doesn't bother me at all.

If they ever went to a paid system I wouldn't do it...We are already paying enough to go down there...I'm not paying just to not have to wait in line
