New Moderate Resort?

Does anyone know if Disney is planning on building a new "Moderate" resort anytime soon? I would love if they did a "Victorian" style like Main Street USA. Maybe a smaller more affordable version of THE GRAND FLORIDIAN. Perhaps then we could finally get the "HAUNTED MANSION" themed rooms....Just wishful thinking?

Lol, Poppet is NOT going to be happy until they make those Haunted Mansion rooms!

I haven't heard anything to be completely honest. I know that Art of Animation is the first new resort they've built in about seven years. I think their next step would be to build another moderate for a few reasons. 1. They haven't built one in awhile and 2. testing out all these "themed rooms" at the moderates has me suspicious of their future plans.

The downside of this is they seem to really be concentrating on two things. DVC & Family Suites. Unfortunately a moderate doesn't really have the capability for either one of those. A moderate family suite would be way too pricey for families and a moderate DVC would sort of defeat the purpose of the "home away from home" luxury thing that DVC has going on.

The mods seem like the Momma Bear of the Disney resorts...poor Momma Bear!

I know they are planning on expanding one of there Deluxes... but as in a new moderate... I haven't heard anything new to be honest. Id like to see a moderate that was nothing but themed rooms for rides... thus the Haunted Mansion would fit in and such. Ive seen rumors and speculations on it, and its not like Disney is running out of room, so I think its possible.... but as of right now its just rumors.

You know... you do bring up a great point about the moderates when it comes to DVC. I can actually see them building a new resort to help DVC out in the moderates. Reason being what you just said. They are mostly deluxes. With a moderate... point value would be cheaper and that would get more people into buying points. Then once they want to stay at a deluxe... they will then in turn buy more points to accommodate that. So I can totally see Disney doing this in the future to get more people into DVC.

I don't think I would mind a moderate DVC but I think a lot of DVCers would have a problem with it!

It's kind of like building an apartment complex next to 500,000 homes. You know what I mean?

That would be awesome if they featured "Themed" rooms like at the Disneyland Resort Hotel. An "Adventureland Room" and "Big Thundermountint Room" would be amazing but that lavish detail would only probably go to a deluxe resort.

I don't know to be honest. I think it would be great to be able to use your points at a cheaper resort to be honest. Get more trips to Disney that way... lol

I think the potential is there. The possibilities of all the different rooms you could have would be amazing. So I'm with you on this one.

But that would lead to the moderate always being full. It's a conundrum. Like I said I would like it because then DVC might be reasonable for our family. It will be interesting to see what they do in the future.

But you got to understand. When its DVC... those rooms are DVC period. Someone who isn't DVC isn't affected by it at all because a specified number of rooms are already dedicated to it. So if it fills up... then its all of the DVC people filling them up, and that can happen no matter where you go to be honest.

At AKL... the whole top floor (Well under the concierge floor...) is nothing but DVC. There are a couple rooms that aren't... but the majority of that floor is nothing but DVC.

Rumor is that the next DVC is GF and if it's true that would mean that you could rent points from an owner for almost as cheaply as staying in a moderate depending on the point structure. Probably would just be a studio but hey...it's GF!

Not entirely, anyone can rent a DVC Villa, you don't haveto be an owner or be staying on points to be in one. Disney holds onto a number of rooms at the DVC resorts for their own rental purposes. You know they're not going to let a room sit empty if they can fill it with a cash guest.

I personally would not want to have a moderate DVC Resort, that's not what DVC is all about. Might they lure more budget minded travelers into purchasing? Perhaps, but then those folks would discover they couldn't have free dining and be upset. I'll stick with the luxury of my DVC Membership, but then I'm the kind of gal who wishes full housekeeping was still included for us.

I think DVC could have a two tier system similar to Hilton Grand Vacations where the NYC owners have access to more resorts than the rest of the common folk like me who just own in Orlando. I'd be fine with that and I'm sure it would be wildly popular even if free dining wasn't offered. wink
