The "Original" Living Seas

We've only known this attraction as "The Living Seas with Nemo and Friends". How was the original version vasty different apart from the whole "Nemo" thing? Just curious. Some like the original better, why?

It was a lot different before. I do not think it was a ride at all before. If I am thinking of the correct attraction, as soon as you entered the building you entered an "elevator" that took you "below" sea level. Then it was as though you were below sea level in an underground "space station" type thing. The aquariums and such were pretty much the same. And there were several levels of things to see as there is now.

That's how I remember it, too...although I could never tell if you were going down, or the attraction was going up! But I liked it. However, I still find lots to see and do with the current iteration, and I think the ride is pretty cute. I may be biased, since I have little kids. I love the queue area of this ride, though. And we always stop by and see the manatees, the smaller aquariums, and have our pic taken inside of Bruce!

There was originally a ride that followed the route of the clam shells, except it also went a in a tube thru the acquaruim itself, it was awesome. The elevators originally took you down to Sea Base Alpha and the ride vehicle toook you to the Sea Base itself. At some point they stopped using the ride, which imho was the best part of The living Seas.

I don't like the new ride at all with the computer animation. The original was all about being immersed in the sea life, that's all gone now.

I liked the original attraction better. To me it had more of the learning experience that I associate with Epcot instead of just another ride based off a movie.
And I miss the deep-sea diving suits they had, even if I was too small to use them when they were still there. laugh

I just saw the "Nemo and Friends" version for the first time last week. The ride is cute, but I think it's lost it's science base. Where before it was a great educational experience that helped you to explore the possibilities of the underwater world, now it's a just kooky ride with an aquarium at the end. My husband was very happy to see the rescued manatees, the tank seemed so dirty it was distracting to me.

I miss the old "Hydrolators", I was amazed at the number of people who actually thought they went 'down' into the aquarium.
