Other Disney parks worldwide

Has anyone been to any other Disney parks outside the US? I'm wondering which should be the first for me!

I've never been to one, but I like the location of DLP. If I were going I'd go there so that I could bop around Europe afterwards.

I have heard great things about the Tokyo parks. They seem bigger than the other international parks...

Well Tokyo is by far the oldest international one, right?

The problem is Tokyo is an island and there aren't all the other cities of Europe to visit.

I think Hong Kong is the youngest.

Tokyo Disneyland is the oldest outside the US, it opened in 1983. My wife went there as a little girl.

That's so cool. Does she remember anything striking about it?

She does. She was only five, but she's always been tall. She remembers being able to go on a lot of the big people rides and remembers LOVING Space Mountain.

It's interesting, I have zero recollection of Tokyo Disney opening up when I was young. Completely off my radar.

No, her dad worked for IBM at the time and transferred there for a few years. I think they got there the year before the park opened.

That must be a great experience for a youngster. A lot of people never visit a foreign country in their whole life. Living in one when you're young I would think would be really good for you.

I think so. She remembers it well, though she was young, and she really grew a lot from it. Her family made sure they saw a lot more of the world while they were over there. All the kids turned out pretty well (a doctor, an engineer, and a military pilot) Smile

What an interesting time to live in Japan. There was a lot of "Buy American" style backlash back then because of our trade imbalance. It bordered on nasty sometimes. Especially since it sounds like she might have come back right in the middle of it. Once again, it would provide really interesting perspective.

Her experience may have been a bit different than others, but she didn't experience any of the negativity. The people there loved her because she was tall and blond (as a child); both quite a novelty there.
