Another great pic, Joe! Looks like you and Jan had a grand time this trip. Looking forward to seeing where else your travels in WDW took you.

Absolutely!

And those are some great cost totals, Joe. You really don't have to break the bank to enjoy the magic of Disney. mickey

I love the photo of Jan with the monorail! How do you guys like the new Contemporary Cafe?

To answer your question about the new Contempo Cafe I must first submit that every thing is relative. This holds true with my opinion.
As you see in the picture our family, for years, spent every Saturday night while in Disney World at the game room at the Contemporary. Our grand children used to save up their quarters(remember them) between each trip so as to have plenty for the next adventure at the "Food & Fun Center". We would spend hours playing cards at the tables while the kids had a ball with the games. The kids were always upset because we would have to leave before the last buss ran. The Concourse Steak house was one of our favorite places to eat. So you see when all that was removed it also removed a place of reminiscence for our family.
On the other side we ate in the Wave once and will never do it again. The new food court is a very nice place for fast food As long as you don't have old memories cluttering your judgment. I'm over that now. All in all it's OK, just a little sorry they had to give up a great steak house to have it

Jan is a chicken pot pie lover. It's one of her favorite meals. Me, I'm a beef lover. When we tried the Wave Jan ordered the chicken pot pie and I ordered the grilled marinated flank steak ( much like London broil) Her pie was almost inedible and my steak was dry and tasteless. Every restaurant can have a bad day but at over $60.00 for the two of us they only get one chance.
Now I have read comments from others that claim nothing but good about the food at the Wave.
One person's opinion is after all just one person's opinion.
Joe

Yeah, the Wave is a little pricey to take a risk. I'm with you.

Thanks for the info about the Wave, Joe. I've heard good and bad, and, you're right $60 = one chance. I think we'll probably give it its one chance when we're there -- we'll report back.

One place that I would recommend highly is the Picabu Buffetera in the Dolphin Resort. Jan swears by the chicken pot pie and every thing else we have had over numerous trips has been excellent, plentiful and reasonable.

I've never been there, but would really like to check it out. Anywhere else in the Swan and Dolphin that you recommend?

No. That's the only one we can afford to eat at.

No kidding! Those restaurants over there are expensive. Much pricier than even Disney parks/resorts. eek

I just looked at the menus! I've never eaten over there, but they are considerably more expensive than Disney it seems. Maybe they're just really proud of their food?

Ha ha! I got one ages ago. I wonder if they'll now become true collector's items as they're not letting anyone ride in the front cab since the unfortunate accident earlier this year.

When we stayed at Ft. Wilderness, for the most part, it was a family thing. All our kids and grand kids and my brother with his family were there. In the evenings , when the grand kids were old enough, we old folks would all gather around our campsites and the younger ones would hop a buss to who knows where. Disney was a safe place. We sometimes watched movies at the outdoor theater but not often. At pop Century there are no beaches.

Great photo of the movie "theater" Joe. I've never been there. Would love to try the campfire at Fort Wilderness.

Did you find your Monorail or Bus Driving certification was harder to get? I hear the written section of the test is quite difficult. silly

In regards to the flag lowering ceremony. I volunteered the day we were at the MK, but they already had chosen an active duty, highly decorated Marine Gunnery Sergeant to do the honors. He was dressed in full dress blues.

If you have never seen this ceremony, I highly encourage everyone to take a few minutes out of their day to do so.

Agreed. It's one of those special things Disney does that makes the park that much richer. I wonder how many folks come to Disney prepared to do the ceremony in full dress uniform -- that's very interesting.

We saw a serviceman in dress uniform when we where there last week. Didn't catch the ceremony though.

Actually, Brad, those tests were not too difficult. The boat drivers test, however, was beyond my ability. Because I am a submarine veteran they wanted me to demonstrate my underwater navigation skills. I just couldn't hold my breath all the way across Bay Lake.

I think the boat driving test is whether you'll pay them $50/hr to rent them! laugh

If you're still interested in seeing a movie, I think you can go to any of the resorts that do them and check them out. I think the contempo might be the best because you can watch from the paved area, which might be best with a scooter.

A great find at T-Rex. In the 70's Jan and I owned 4 of these. From a 1963 to a 1973. Best 4 wheel drive ever made. My '66' had been in swamps and sand doons in Florida and over mountain tops and thru snow storms in the New York Catskills. We belonged to a Land Rover group and ran our his and hers Rovers in all kinds of challenges.
Finding one at T-Rex brought back many fond memories.
Ahhh! Youth was great.

I really don't want to get to far away from Disney topics but here are a couple of 'challenges' for our Land Rover group.
Sand dune climbing in DelRay Beach Fl.(no pix). Swamp trek if Fl.. Note that this was in the late 60s. The only 4 wheelers were some Ford and Chevy trucks, some old Jeeps, International Scout, Ford Bronco and Toyota Land Cruiser. The old Jeeps did OK and the Toyota Land Cruiser( I also owned one of these in the late 80s.) did very well but the rest should have stayed in the driveway. The Land Rover always did the best. The pre 80s built were like a tank. I don't know much about any newer than that.
With the Rovers alone, in the Catskill Mountains of NY. we would make logging trail trecks over the mountain in early spring. Anyone who knows about 'spring thaw' can imagine how much fun that was.
First picture: my first 1966 Land Rover
Second picture: Standing by Jan's Rover In my younger, rebellious days
Third picture: An old time family dress up run in Rovers through town ( Me, Jan and 4 kids. Our Rovers in background. In the mid 70s.

Those are great photos! I love the one with the whole family all dressed up and ready to go out for a ride. That's always been something my family has loved doing together, too.

Thanks for diverging from Disney to share those Land Rover stories.

I love reading these things you share with us Joe. Looks like that beard's been a faithful friend for many years too! wink Unfortunately the Land Rover brand, like so many things these days has gone down the tubes. They are today one of the statistically least reliable brands on the road. They are still popular with the off-road crowd though. I'm partial to the old Toyota FJ's.
