Pleasure Island - Back to Life

This is pretty exciting news!

Pleasure Island 2.0

I'm assuming, and hoping, they open it up in phases.

The article says "the future" of Pleasure Island, but it does not say how far into the future they are talking about, does any know a time frame and when is construction starting confused .It should help the ghost town atmosphere since they closed most of Pleasure Island.

"Construction on the district begins immediately and itâs scheduled to be completed in 2013." from the Disney Parks Blog:

Too bad they couldn't get started on this stuff years ago!

I think the artist renderings are pretty cool. It will be neat to see how the plans evolve. I'm especially excited to see what types of shops/restaurants they attract. It was a real bummer a couple of years back when Universal started charging for parking after 7 (you used to be able to go over, have dinner, and walk around City Walk shops without paying for parking. Disney will definitely have the edge there.)

I can't wait. PI is such a great idea, it's been a bummer to see it all derelict.

Yes, but will the Adventurer's Club be back?

So, in DtD now is the rest of the place unaffected, but just Pleasure Island is sealed off or totally empty or something? I haven't been since they shut it down

It isn't really sealed off...or at least it wasn't. It may be now, as they start construction. All of this time, you've been able to walk between WestSide and Marketplace through Pleasure Island, and Raglan Road and a few other businesses in that area have remained open. From what I've read, they'll also be doing some work to the AMC, so I'm sure the effects will be felt all around. Pollo Campero is open where McDonalds was, so hopefully that lessons some of the construction closeoff. I hate when you have to walk by wall after wall of stuff through a narrow passageway. But I'm excited to see this! I love Boardwalk, and I'm thinking it might have a similar feel?

ooohh!! We were JUST talking about this here too!

I love the drawings and glad they are revamping it. It doesn't look like it will be "night club" centered like PI..am I getting the right impression?

I'm pretty sure that was the point of killing PI in the first place was that the nightclub approach wasn't working. (and by "working" I mean minting cash the way the stores did) So I'd be surprised if there's any nightclubby element to it.

I hope they at least put SOME entertainment in there.

Sounds like the AMC expansion might offer some entertainment...and of course, there's still Raglan Road, with live music and Irish step dancing. But I agree - it would benefit from something - maybe like Jellyrolls? Not necessarily the same kind of place...but a themed club of somekind, like a dance club, or comedy club, or even a theatre. Now THAT would be cool.
