Pleasure Island Changes?

So yesterday Dave and I had to take a longish car trip to my in-laws and on the way I was telling him about all the changes in Disney since we went in 2008. When I got to the part about Pleasure Island..I got stuck. I know they shut down Pleasure Island and are transforming it into a shopping area...but not much else. Has anyone seen these changes? Have they started yet? Or is Pleasure Island just sitting deserted for now??

Last year was my first trip to Downtown Disney so I don't know a lot of Pleasure Island. Maybe this will answer your questions - http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/pleasure-island/

Last August a good portion of the buildings were still there but empty. Some new shops had popped up. They need to bring back the Adventurer's Club!

A few new restaurants have been added, and they do have some music/living statues for entertainment in the main stretch where all the clubs were, so it's not completely dead. But the majority of the old club buildings themselves are still just there and empty. It'll be interesting to see what they finally do to fill up those spaces.

Thanks for that link!

It's sad that it just seems to be sitting empty for the most part. I thought I remembered reading something about them turning it into a warf type shopping center..but I guess that hasn't happened yet.

A couple of intersting articles about the renovation have appeared here at WDWFG, Check out Hyperion Wharf.
If I had the computer know-how I would bring it forth, HOWEVER confused

I believe they've actually started some demolition and building. I'll see what I can hunt up...

Here's the latest update I've seen.

They really need to bring back the club circuit - in my opinion. Going there on my 21st birthday was awesome. The style of clubs were unique and could not be found elsewhere....exceptionally, Manaquins. wink

Was Mannequins the one with the revolving floor? We went to PI for Grad Night and I just remember that floor that moved and it made me dizzy.

I agree they need to bring back the clubs! My husband and I used to get the annual PI passes every year and go down there a lot. It was so much fun!! I was there the last Saturday night and was in Mannequins when they turned the lights on that night. I wanted to cry! sad

I'm another vote for bringing back the clubs! I really miss having that entertainment option at night. I thought that I had read they scrapped the Hyperion Warf idea, but the bowling alley is still being built. My family doesn't bowl, so I can't say I'll be headed that way.

I'm one for keeping the clubs out. Plus they don't need the types of problems they were having on Disney Property or any family vacation resort area.
