PoTC Closing For Refurb This Summer

Apologies if this has already been posted, but I don't recall seeing it and didn't see it in a search....

Pirates of the Caribbean, one of the popular rides at Disney's Magic Kingdom, will be out of operation from May 11 to Sept. 25.

Disney says the ride is undergoing a routine refurbishment.

Some industry watchers say it's unusual to have a ride as popular as Pirates out of order during the entire busy summer season.

Managed to snag a FP before it goes away and hope to ride several more times as well crossfingers

The rumours were that someone sitting in the back few rows was injured (lost the tips of some fingers while ignoring that 'hands and feet inside the ride at all times' suggestion). Apparently the older track, where in came into contact with some new ones, wasn't running as smoothly as they'd hoped and someone got hurt.

I got stuck on Pirates last spring and after 30 mins they evacuated us! Sad

I've also heard from Kenny the Pirate that some of the boats have been filled with water towards the back. I don't blame them for shutting down for refurbishment. Now if Disneyland would do the same thing to Indiana Jones Temple of the Forbidden Eye. I mean, Disneyland shut down Big Thunder Mountain for over a year and now the ride looks and feels better than ever.

I just hope that the refurb includes a small modification that will give someone a small jolt of electricity whenever their flash goes off on their camera/phone.

I wonder if they can fix the boat pile up at the end. I hate that squeaky sound that the boats make when the bumpers collide.

Brings a tear to my eye Sad( I can't believe we'll miss riding POTC this May/June.. It's a staple for us... Kinda like Dole whip and the 3 O'clock parade.. Won't be the same!!! sad

I just looked at my husband and shook my head. Seriously her teenage daughter had more sense and manners than this woman. I had the slightest urge to say "If all your mom friends robbed a liquor store would it be ok for you to do it too?" I didn't. Amazing that these are the things I work on with my 2nd grade class.

Wow... that's crazy. This is definitely one of my pet peeves while at WDW. Two things that drive me crazy:

1. People that don't know how to use a flash.

2. People that don't care when it's not appropriate or acceptable to us a flash.

I see people all the time taking shots of something way in the distance yet their flash is on, lighting up the air for no reason. It's just not needed in that situation. They're just too lazy to turn it off.

Then there are those that just don't care that they're lighting up a dark ride that ruins the experience for others. When I see the photo review flash up on their phone's screen (sitting behind someone on PoTC for example), it's usually extremely poor quality, so why even bother in the first place? The worst for me is when people fire off the flash in HM, especially Madame Leota's room.

The worst experience we ever had was with a family of 3 in front of us that kept taking selfies every time there was a new scene. What? Not any of the ride, except what was behind us and maybe made it into the frame. These bozos were just going to get 50 fuzzy photos of themselves, and some old grey-haired wheelchair behind them that was totally blinded by now (me!). I asked them to stop, but they wouldn't, so I readied my camera, apologized to everyone else in the boat, and let them have an experience of a flash going off 2 feet from their faces (they were turning their heads to get all together, so I could get at least a couple of eyes with my flash! biggrin ). Amazingly they stopped when they realized I was ready to do it every time they did.
