Pre-Trip Info

Hello!

Thanks to everyone who were so nice on the newbie board. yay

Here is the low down:

POFQ from 2/13/11 to 2/19/11
Booked the trip when they had free dining, so this will be our first time using the Disney Dining Plan. (last time we went we had the quick service plan, which we *loved*)

People: Myself (Kristi) and Hubby (Mark). We have been married 10 years and have an 18 year old son. This is our second trip, and I find myself already planning our third trip when our second trip has not even started. We go to DLR all the time as we are local (hit me up if you want to go mickey) We race our dachshunds and are into hockey (lets go ducks!)

The plan is as so:

Arrive 2/13/11, plane lands at 7:19 pm. Take ME to the resort and run over to the Magic Kingdom, as the have extra magic hours till 12 that night. Must do Big Thunder first, this ride is my favorite.

2/14/11: Valentines Day! Per touring plans, best park for the day. We plan to hit all the rides in Future World and stroll the World Showcase. We have dinner reservations at Le Cellier at 7:30. Ordered flowers for the hubby, and they should be delivered to our resort room by the time we get back from Epoct.

2/15/11: Animal Kingdom Day. Last time, didnt really care for this park. Might have been because it was hotter than the sun (mid-july). We have breakfast reservations at Tusker House with Donald. Only guantee that I get to meet Daisy. AK closes at 6, so we will head back to over to MK, as we have reservations for the Wishes Dessert Party.

2/16/11: Epcot Day! Hubby's fav park is Epoct, we will be spending a ton of time in this park, and I am not complaining. The plan is to do all the Kim Possible missions. We did a couple last time, and had a blast! This might also be our drink around the world day. We have dinner reservations at Biergarten.

2/17/11: Hollywood Studios day. Again, didnt really care for this park to much last time. Its a Fantasmic day, so it will be crowded. We have lunch reservations at Mama Melrose with the Fantasmic package. I really want to see Beauty and the Beast also. Not big on waiting over an hour to see Toy Story Mania. I am told it is the same as the one in DCA.

2/18/11: MK/Epcot Day! going to start the day at MK, and do a few things that we must do again(big thunder!) then head over to Epcot. We have dinner reservations at Rose & Crown. Epcot has extra magic hours this night, so we will probably stay till close.

2/19/11: Magic Kingdom Day! We leave today, but the ME does not pick us up till 2:30, so we will spend the morning at MK. Breakfast reservations at Crystal Place. They have a glass blower on Main Street, and we saw these great vases last time, and that is my gift for this trip.

Thats about it. We shall see if things go as planned. Let me know if you would tweak anything or know something that would be fun!

-Kristi

I've never stayed in POFQ. It may be my #1 choice of the ones that I haven't stayed at, though I might do Riverside first.

I like your schedule. The drinking & Kim Possible day is a great idea we might have to steal. Are you just doing counter-service for the rest of the meals besides the 1 TS per day? Have you done Rose & Crown before? We love it!

The rest of the meals are Counter Service. One of the joys of POFQ is that there are fridges in the room. We order or energy drinks (not a coffee drinker) and oatmeal bars for the room so that breakfast is covered. However, I may not be able to pass up a mickey waffle.

Last time/First time, the only TS we did was Le Cellier. There are some really good pubs where we live, so I hope that Rose & Crown can live up to it.

When you get the chance, I highly recommend POFQ. Its a wonderful little resort. We looked at some of the others and were amazed a how big they were in comparison. Plus since its a sister resort to POR, you can use both pools!!

The october trip (which I am not telling hubby about for a while), we are staying at Pop, which I am pretty excited about.

POP is such good value for the money.

Did you enjoy Le Cellier last time? I haven't been in a while and everyone keeps telling me it's going downhill, but I'm guessing since you're going again you disagree. We always loved it.

Tusker House for breakfast may be my favorite character breakfast out there as well. You should definitely get a Mickey waffle there. Breakfast at Crystal Palace is great too, but I love the Pooh characters so that makes a big difference for me.

I'm intimidated by your good pubs now, I hope the Rose & Crown lives up to my recommendation!

We really did enjoy Le Cellier. I have read that its going down hill. However, we thought the food was worth the money. I find, that if there are good people around, it does not matter if the food is okay (although, i really liked the food at le cellier), as the company makes it all fabulous. What we remember most is our waiter and the people at the table next to us.

Same thing with the good pub. Most have good food, but it the people that make it great!

btw.. thats Kit in your picture right?

Not sure. The only CS we ate last time was Garden Grill, which was tasty.

I am way open for suggestions. biggrin

I would definitely suggest Wolfgang Puck Express and Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney! Not sure if you'll be going there on this trip, but I think those are the two best places to eat CS mickey

I really think you'll like Rose and Crown. It was going down hill for a while, but it's gotten much better.

Where did you order the Valentine's flowers from?

Disney Floral and Gifts

They must just really do the resorts. The first question they asked me what "What resort are you staying at?"

I didnt think the prices were to outragous either. laugh

Kristi - I personally think Columbia Harbour House at MK is wonderful CS, especially if you like clam chowder or fish and chips - both are really good to great. I even like the fish and chips better than Epcot's. I like Casey's Corner on Main Street, too, for hot dogs (if this is vacay and you're eating no-so-healthy at least some of the time.) And of course, you can't skip the dole whip at MK, either. OH- and there's new theming at the CS across from POTC. It tends to be seasonal though, so I don't know if it will be open for you.

DO see Beauty and the Beast. I have a really good friend who plays Gaston most weekdays, and I think they do an excellent job of bringing the whole story together in a short timeframe.

OH - and not CS, but I love Raglan Road at DTD. It's an Irish Pub. The theming is gorgeous, the food is delicious. It's a can't miss in my book. (And since the Chef is Irish and the decor what, I believe, brought in from Ireland, I confidently recommend it, even with your good pub experience. Smile ) There is actually a fish and chips stand around the side of it, if it's counter service you're after, though.

Have FUN! Can't wait to hear all about it. If possible, will you post POFQ pics? I know next to nothing about that resort.

Lizzy - I will post pics of the resort when we get back. *if* i were on my computer a home I could load some. Maybe I will do that tonight. laugh

I will have to try harbor house. About the only CS we ate last time other than Seasons was Peco's Bill's. Loved the BBQ sandwich. The bulk of the CS was just the service at the hotel.

I've always wondered if they do more than the resorts! I think they might cater to resorts in the area as well, but that's all I've heard. Great idea!

Love your dining choices:

Le Cellier & Rose and Crown - Two of my favorites at Epcot
Tusker House - One of my favorite breakfasts and a great AK pick.
Crystal Palace - Best breakfast in the MK.

Only change I MIGHT make is 50's Prime Time for Mama Melrose, but I really enjoyed MM the last time we went and 50's Prime Time not so much, so you might have chosen the best possibilities.

Mama Melrose was not my first choice, but since they had the Fantismic deal, I figured it was the easiest way to see Fantasmic.

We are doing the DDP for our trip in October, so I want to try totally differnt resturants next time. Well, aside from Le Cellier.
