Resort Availability

Are there certain times of the year when the Deluxe or Moderate Disney resorts are less crowded/busy? Where it isn't hard to get a room?

One April about 4 yrs ago, we tried to get into POFQ but it was totally booked. We did however get a wonderful room at POR in Oak Manor. Great experience and we instantly fell in love with Riverside, our fave moderate. Just curious though if you can narrow down when one resort will be more crowded than others?

I think the best times are before the holidays. I mean for the past couple years and in the past we go either the week before Thanksgiving or after, and it makes a huge difference. Also... I think the weather is the best during that November/December/January time as well

Hi

Of the mods, POFQ is by far the smallest, I think 1/4 of the size of the others. And it often gets it's own buses at the busiest times, so 1/4 of the people clamoring for the same buses makes the transport a bit easier. So POFQ has it's own little cult following (I'm one). So that may explain why they were booked when POR wasn't.

The info I've seen indicates that the parks and resorts operate between 80% and 100% capacity year round. So it's not like they are ever 1/2 full, but from experience, the difference between 80% and the 90-100% times is dramatic. (we took mini me out of school one year to get a great deal, another year we went during Feb. Break).

Often the slowest times at Disney are right after the school age families go back to school, so right now is quiet, right after XMAS break in January is also quiet. Be careful in November. One week every November is NJ teacher week. The teachers all go to the state Ed conference, and tons of NJ families go to Disney, it boosts occupancy significantly.

I don't know if the resorts book at different rates seasonally, but it wouldn't surprise me if the MK resorts get extra full during MNSSHP and the XMAS events, ditto EPCOT hotels during their special events.

Be careful the first week in January too, it's the marathon and tends to be packed. Disney strategically planned it that week to bring crowds in during a slow time. It's definitely not slow now!
