Richard Petty Driving Experience

Okay, so my husband's duh-ream experience would be to drive a race car. I'm thinking of surprising him during our next trip to Disney.

Has anyone been? Good? Bad? Ugly? Crazy expensive, that I know for sure! Worth it?

Hi Nancy D! I have done the Petty Driving Experience twice at WDW. It is a blast. It can be expensive depending on the package type you do. Last time for me was November 2009. I did the middle tier package of 18 laps and it was around $700. I think the shorter 1st tier package of 8 laps was around $350. I do know that if you check their website they have some discounts. If you make a reservation in advance they will even pick you up and drop you off at your resort if you stay on WDW property. You normally have to get there around 8 am and transportation to the track is not that easy other than getting a cab or driving yourself if you have a car on property. Absolutely worth the price for me. I loved the experience.

I surprised my husband with a driving experience at the Monster Mile in Dover, DE. He tells me it was one of the most amazing things he's ever done. It wasn't Disney, but I hear that most "drive a race car" experiences are very similar. I say go for it!

The wife and I both did the Petty Driving Experience, several years ago and it took three days to wipe the smile from her face. As for me I'm a huge gearhead so it goes without saying that I had a real blast. There are some photos of our experience somewhere on this forum.

I think I would be too scared to go that fast but it definitely looks like a fun and unique experience - love that article!
