Signature Dining - If you do it, when do you do it?

In 30 days I can make our ADRs for our April trip! YAY!

I want to go to the CA Grille again as our big splurge (we have the DDP). My debate is when to do it - first evening of the trip, as a magical start, or last evening, as a magical end.

I see pros and cons to both, but currently am leaning towards doing it our last night there.

If you do any Signature Dining or special meals, when do you try to reserve it? Early in the trip or late?

We do a lot of it each trip. We always do California Grill our first night and that is usually our favorite meal of the trip. Probably because it is our first meal and we still have the whole vacation ahead of us. But, I can see waiting till the last meal too. It will be great regardless of when you decide to do it.

I can see the appeal of both options.. We are going to Cali Grill almost right in the middle of our trip, lol! It's on our anniversary though so I guess that is different.
I think I would leave it for last cause that would be a wonderful way to end a trip.

As far as I am concerned I would go with the last night, to bring down the curtain on a great Disney Vacation.

That would be my choice, also. Just walking into the first park on arrival day is a magical start. I don't need anything beyond that to make me happy.

We're doing the California Grill on the last night of our upcoming trip. I think it will be a great way to spend the last evening of a magical week!

I agree with Scrappy! It's nice to have a few signature meals spread throughout the vacation. I'd add one in the middle too. Go for three JeffC!!

I just did three on my last trip and I highly recommend it! (Artist Point, Bistro de Paris, Jiko)

We tend to go whenever we can. Although I have to agree with Vette, going at the end is alyaws the best.

I *heart* scrappy the enabler!!! And J.P., you are a pot-stirrer! HOORAY FOR POT-STIRRERS!

I am also toying with the idea of accidentally inadvertantly oops-did-I-do-that-and-not-tell-you adding another day to the trip. My defense when he figures it out will be that I am having a series of shots in my knee starting next week and needed a pick-me-up. I need to learn to cry on queue too.

JeffC, I'm going to start calling you OB-1. I like the way you think!

I would probably do it first. I'm far too much of a grump on my last night to enjoy anything nice. But that's just me. laugh

The one problem with waiting til the end is then you are anticipating and looking forward to it the whole trip. On the off chance something goes wrong then its a big downer and that would be a bad way to end the trip.

I think a signature meal is great any time. biggrin

We did Citrico's this trip because I'm trying to work my way through a meal at all of them. Dessert in Citricos was amazing, but dinner was just so-so. I really didn't think that it was worth the two credits as much as some of the others we've been to.

I couldn't agree more! And thanks fo the opinion on Citrico's.

The other thing I noticed as I was planning our ADRs is that I tend to do more table-service for lunch than dinner. Anyone else like that? Of the 8 I have planned, 5 are at lunchtime this year.

I think it really has alot to do with how we do the parks. It seems alot easier for me to commit to a certain park for the morning into early afternoon, but after that, our days are so fluid. I find it harder to commit to a location for the evening and thus keep our dinners usually as counter-service for the ultimate evening flexibility.
