You too, JoAnn! Luckily both of our offices closed until Wednesday so we don't need to leave. Hope anyone else in the area has the same situation - and if you are an emergency worker we can't thank you enough!

hoping I don't lose power either. I didn't during Irene last year but did when we had the snow storm in October.

Thanks Jeff. Is NorCal still under a tsumani watch from the earthquake off of BC? I read this morning it was but haven't seen any updates.

Thanks CC. Lucky you. I've been with my company for 9 years and they've never closed. Not looking forward to driving to and from work with the wind gusts they're predicting.

We would be at home riding this out but we can not get home. I can't get home because our flights keep getting canceled yuck I anticipated that today so we called and canceled our flight for tonight. Which I am glad we did because 10mins after that flight took off for Baltimore they closed Baltimore down for the next 2 days and they also canceled our flight to Norfolk. So we try again tomorrow. This time we will fly to Chicago then Chicago to Norfolk I am not holding out much hope, but we have to keep trying. I am glad to be somewhere safe, dry and not in an airport right now.

I hope everyone else is safe.

They cancelled it early this morning, I believe. That was a big quake they had up there!

Best of luck getting back soon, angels.

My in laws were trying to fly back to South Jersey today from Florida, and their flight was canceled as well. They probably won't get back until Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. Unfortunately we can't get to their house, which is near a river, so hopefully they were able to get in touch with a neighbor to make sure everything was secure. sad

I NEED MY DISNEY! Oh, and my brother and sisters. silly

woke up about an hour ago... a lot of wind here in Connecticut... but no rain yet... not until 12pm according to weather.com. apparently the storms pressure dropped sometime while we were all sleeping and instead of 75 mph gusts we will now have 85 mph gusts.. I live inland and somewhat on high ground so I don't see flooding being an issue... I am however, surrounded by trees and expect power will be out within the next 24 hrs... I will miss you all until it gets turned back on!!!! sad

A few of our friends left on the Fantasy last Saturday and their cruise was certainly affected by Sandy. I just hope they don't have to use up too much of the motion sickness pills on this cruise. We are scheduled to hear from them from the Fantasy on Wednesday when one of them will pay for an Internet connection on that day.

Oh, of course, after I posted that, I found this story

http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-865019?hpt=hp_t1

Our friends boarded right after this particular cruise. I wonder how much damage they would notice on the ship?

Yes praying and hoping everyone is ok up in the Northeast. Everyone stay safe. Sounds like it could get bad.

I'm home now. The facility is still open but they let my department leave early. The governor of CT is closing the state highways as of 1:00pm.

PA has declared a state of emergency and the governor is asking folks to stay off the roads, so I am home safe and sound in my sweats. Its not too bad right now, but they're saying its going to get bad pretty quick. Fingers crossed the power stays on! Wishing everyone else in Sandy's path a safe few days!

I'm watching the pictures out of New York - wow! We are in Ontario, it been raining non-stop for days now already, and the wind is just starting to pick up. I hope you all stay safe, don't get flooded, and keep the lights on.

stars and appreciation to all the emergency workers, hydro linesmen, etc., that will be out in this mess.

Here in central PA we have rain and strong winds, both getting heavier/stronger as the day progresses. I made it to our veterinarian this morning with an unhappy cat before it got really bad; won't be going back out until it's over. All our hatches are battened, and while the road puddles are getting deeper, I didn't see any real flooding while I was out. We'll probably have to shop vac a little water out of our basement (happens whenever there's a deluge, so very rarely), but unless it gets a lot worse than predicted, we'll be fine. I do hope there's no power outage, though. And I hope everyone else in Sandy's path stays safe.

I do see one bright spot if I lose power.... I can't watch TV so I won't be bombarded with political ads!

Got a call from work, they're canceling second shift and closing the facility at 3:00. I hope everyone still at work gets home safely before it gets worse.

Good afternoon,

I live 46 miles (74 km) west, and a little north, of Atlantic City, NJ which the local weathercasters say will take a direct hit from Sandy in less than four hours. This storm is immense, about 175 miles (285 km) across, and will meet with two other weather systems as it slams into the Jersey coast. It has a barometric pressure of only 940 millibars, which is the lowest that the Philadelphia region has seen in decades, maybe ever. The lower the barometric pressure, the stronger the storm, and Sandy is one powerful chick. I got a call yesterday from my boss stating that the IRS in Philadelphia, my employer, is closed today and may be closed tomorrow. Sandy is affecting everyone from Bermuda to Detroit. Forecasters are predicting sustained winds of 50 mph (80 km/h) with gusts close to 80 mph (128 km/h) tonight with rainfall amounts of between four and ten inches (100-250 mm). It has been raining since 5 pm EDT last night. Stay safe, fellow east coasters!

Good thing I like to read: my 27" (68 cm) Sony Trinitron TV, which I have owned since 1995, gave up the ghost last night during the bottom of the first inning of the World Series game, which the SF Giants won, 4-3 in ten innings to complete the sweep and indulge their broom fetish.

ZZ I know it looks bad for someone not used to sailing in storms but it didnt look all that horrible on the video I am sure your friends are fine but will have a fun disney sea story to tell. I think Disney needs to revisit how they secure things in the rooms theres no excuse for furniture to be moving it should be bolted to the deck. Hope everyones ok

Stay safe Jim. I'm watching CNN, and they are reporting from Atlantic City right now. Awful!

Be careful, Jim! I have friends who evacuated LBI yesterday, the status of their house is uncertain...

twilight, are you near a branch of the Rahway River? My father and brother still live just a mile from a place where it floods like crazy.
