A trip that overlaps Marathon weekend. Yes or no????

So this may have been discussed on here before..... but I am trying to decide if we can fit a trip in, in Jan 2014. Due to my school schedule, it's looking like the only time we can go is during my winter break which starts Dec 16 2013-Jan 12 2014. We don't want to go Dec 16-22 because that is too close to the Christmas rush and we don't want to deal with the crowds, plus I want the discount. We were thinking about Jan 3-11. I just realized that the Marathon weekend is Jan 8-12. So..... Just wondering what the crowd levels are like for that weekend? How are the parks, are they super busy and do they have sections closed off for the Marathon? I am not familiar with this time of year because we usually go during the last week of Nov or the first 2 weeks of Dec. Any suggestions or advice about this time of year would be greatly appreciated. mickey I am on the fence now about going during that week because of the marathon. If we don't go that week, we may not get to go at all because of my schedule. sad The only other thought I had was to shorten our trip, but I don't want to do that either.

The marathon does draw a lot of people and the crowds will be bigger, but I don't think it compares to the holiday crowds. It may be a little more crowded but if your other choice is to not come, I would definitely give it a shot. We go every year for the marathon and hit the parks, and there's crowds but I don't ever recall it being crazy crowded or unbearable. There's not really a safe time to go when it's not crowded anymore.

Marathon weekend is busy, but it never ever felt crowded to me. Nothing is closed, since most of the running takes place before the parks open. Toward the end of Sunday morning/early pm, they're still running through DHS, but the park is open. CMs just reroute traffic - which is probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen happen in terms of logistics at Disney.

I know, taratru, is that the coolest logistics? I love the way they are so organized and handle the crowds so there is so little disruption. All those runners and then to have the parks open too, one of Disney's strengths is definitely moving crowds efficiently. Any non runner has to stop and marvel at the runners, 26+ miles, through Disney...amazing!
