WDW...Is It The Most Magical Place On Earth...

Dear Friends..Before I hit my pixie pillow..I was asked today why i put so much Disney things on Facebook..So I explained that I love WDW and I hate certain people putting me down for loving it..Maybe because I'am in my early ( very early ) 60's..Anyway tomorrow I will announce to my in laws that we are off to WDW in October ...I dread their reaction...But before they ask me why.?...What is your reason for going back to WDW..What one thing makes it the most magical vacation in the world.?..

It makes me forget what is going on in the world. I can concentrate on having fun and not worry about anything else.

I can have the perfect combination of world class relaxation, exploration, entertainment, luxury and service for a price I can afford. Not a bad way for me to recharge my tolerance for silly people in this world.

I understand 100% It's what my I need new friends post was all about. I post a lot of WDW stuff on FB also. and Pinterest too.

A lot of people just don't get it and never will. I love everything about it. Being in the bubble, laughing and smiling while trying on all the ears and hats, having Mickey shaped treats, posing with characters, jumping on all the rides, trying new things and so so much more. There is no way on earth I could narrow it down to one thing!

I have a friend who wants me to take her so she can see what it's all about and I can't wait to plan that trip. She wants to take her kids but wants a crash course with me first. SHOULD BE FUN!!!!!!

So enjoy, who cares what anyone else thinks! (especially in-laws lol) biggrin

Disney is magical and lets me be a kid again. I can buy a silly hat and wear it. I can get a funnel cake and not worry about working out after I eat the whole thing. I can scream as I fly around Big Thunder Railroad. As I am doing all of these things so are a whole bunch of other adults who just want to forget their troubles and be kids again if only for a short time. I don't for one week a year worry about bills and work and all the crazy things that stress out my life. So when people tell me they don't understand why I love Disney so much I just smile at them and figure they are the ones missing out. Oh and this forum makes me smile everyday because I know I am not alone in my Disney devotion.

It is an escape from the real world. Wether it is for 2 or 7 days, once you are inside Disney you can forget about everything else.

There's always something new to try or to do. Always. I love that I can do the things I know I love and also try new things. I love feeling like a kid again.

it is a place to escape the real world problems for a while, to forget everything that is stressing us out even if it is only for a week. when we get back to the real world it is a little easier to deal with

I love so many things about WDW, I can't pick just one thing or activity. So I will say our number one reason for going to Disney every month for a few days, is because we experience a complete sense of joy and happiness every time we enter a WDW park. Life is too short to not take every opportunity to experience happiness. WDW really is the "happiest place on earth" for DH and me!

Well it's Sunday..And we have just returned from our customary Sunday visit to the in laws...So as I listened ( again ) to there rant about booking holidays to Spain and Abu Dhabi this year,it was time to fire the canons.." Oh Yeh, we are off to WDW in October and staying at one of Disney's deluxe resort." eek Silence and gaping mouths...So it as my turn to rant why we decided to book it again...As most of you good folk have said on this thread...Escapism from the real world..No ones gonna bat an eyelid when you walk around with a set of ears on your head...( Try doing that in Spain and you'll be locked up in the funny farm ) ...And as we drove off waving goodbye to them at their front door, I had the biggest grin this side of the Atlantic..See ya next Sunday...LOL...

There are a lot reasons why WDW is "magical". Aside from the usual escape from the real world, which I fully agree that is one part of it, but I think to put simply why it's magical: Nostalgia. For a lot people, it brings back good memories when they were small and now that they're grown up, they're passing their love down to their kids, who will then pass it down to their own kids and the cycle continues. It's passing the love down from generation to generation in a nutshell.

Other than that, the parks taps into our childhood imaginations and childhood fascinations in a way. The MK has the six themed lands, each to represent something we aspired to be as a young kid. An explorer/pirate, cowboy/cowgirl, princess/prince, an astronaut/space hero, a patriot in colonial America. We know that these sorts of people do not exist in real life so to speak, but the way the park is set up with its castle, bright colors and most prevalent characters have us experiencing a surreal feeling beyond our wildest dreams. Did I forget to mention that role playing and imagination had to be a huge part of childhood that I'm sure most of us enjoying doing as a kid.

The other theme parks, on a different note, address fascinations of our childhood. Epcot shows us the power and capability of technology and science over time in Future World and basically, oohing and aahing at how things worked. In World Showcase, it is the learning and experiencing new countries and cultures.

Hollywood Studios shows us the experience of what it is like to be part of a movie both on and off camera. We learn what it takes to make the movies they make through live action stunt shows or learning how the animated characters on the screen started out as a bunch of drawings. There is also the experience of taking part in a movie scene in the form of a ride, like a fun, thrilling sci-fi chase scene or a nightmare scenario of being in an out of control elevator in a haunted hotel, or the thrill of being a rock star riding in a fast limo to get to a concert in style.

Animal Kingdom may be considered "just a zoo" but the animals are not bound down by cages or a cramped space as some movies have portrayed but rather, the animals are given more freedom and bigger spaces, made to replicate their own living environment and habitats. As kids, yes, most of them just want to see the actual animal itself but to see them in a proper environment gives a peace of mind in a way.

As adults, all of the parks I feel bring back our memories of youth and we've grown to appreciate how some things have changed for the better but at the same time, some things still remain the same and still kept their original touch and appeal so to speak.

We have a similar problem with breaking Disney news to the family - not in the sense of they question why but I have an elderly nana who we help after work and we are very close to her and I think over the years she has come to realise we will be returning it doesn't help in the telling her we are leaving her for 2 weeks and only ringing her once a day so I feel your pain king!!!

Our sons get it because they would go with us if they could get away from their jobs, but the rest of the family really doesn't get it and we don't bother trying to explain anymore. Since most of them went once when their kids were young, they feel they have done it (much the same way I feel about some other "ride" parks). They haven't been there is so long, they can't really grasp what they don't know, so no amount of explaining will be enough. It's enough for US to know why we go there.

It is simplicity, a childhood dream of all things, all at once, all in one place; Tinkerbell truly flying across the sky, fireworks and music, hot dogs, ice cream with chocolate ears. . . A western village, a space ship to Mars, a Main Street that I wish I'd grown up with, and a battle with pirates. All things that become real, if only for a day, and I get to be there while they exist.

A place where I can forget the cynicism of now and remember the wonder of 'then'.

It is home, but in a way I know not from my memory, but from my heart.

Just too many quotes to mention here........... but let's just say that nothing else matters for two weeks each year except my wife, having fun and making memories. Life's too short to be serious all the time, so it's good to switch off, relax, take a breath. awesome

I'm sticking with my old standby response: For the duration of the trip I get to be 10 years old again.
