What time to schedule reservation to see Illumionations

It's been a LONG time since I tried to jockey for position to see Illuminations from a restaurant. Has anything changed? What's the best bet of actually getting a good table -- e.g. what time should the reservation be, what restaurant, etc?

7.30/8pm at the Rose and Crown, ask for a water front table and offer to wait if the next one isn't water front.

I wonder if people keep going earlier and earlier and sitting for longer and longer to get those tables. We've never tried. We figured we'd have to wait forever.

Every trip we make an ADR for Rose and Crown around 7:45-8:00. We never ask to sit on the waterfront but we have every time. By the time Illuminations starts we are just finishing our meals and waiting on desert. It's just perfect!
