What would you do - Resort question!

Would love some feedback on this: we booked our September trip for POR, which we've never stayed at.

But I just read over on allears.net that WDW just completed a full room reno of the POFQ.

http://land.allears.net/blogs/allearsteam/2011/05/newrenovated_rooms_at_port_orl.html

They are planning to start room renos at POR in June, with an end date sometime in early 2012.

I'm thinking I want to switch over to the POFQ, primarily because of the new rooms, but also because I don't know what the impacts of the POR renovations would be on our stay (would we hear or see construction, workers, etc.)?

We really liked the POFQ, and the new room pics really look great. And I'm worried the POR will feel outdated.

Would you switch?

Yes.

For two reasons. One this whole renovation business.

Two because POR are so huge and POFQ is very small and intimate. I have stayed at POR twice and it is lovely don't get me wrong..but I have always wanted to stay at POFQ because it just just so accessible. When I say POR is huge..I mean..it's HUGE! We stayed in the Mansions once supposedly "close to the bus stop and main lobby" and it felt like it took forever to get places.

So yes..go with POFQ. Their baguettes are amazing.

Also, another thing. I've never cared for the look of Alligator Bayou. We've been lucky enough to stay in the Mansions both times. I think Alligator Bayou would disappoint me.

I've never stayed at FQ but from what I saw POR is more.. rustic. Like as far as the atmosphere, it's more relaxed. Bigger.. more landscaping.

if it were my choice, I'd stay at POR because I LIKE that it has all the trees and scenery and such. Not enough time spent in the rooms to move just because of a room renovation IMO.

But that's just me.

also, when they did the renovations at OKW, they shut down the whole building they were working on so it wouldnt disrupt people. I think they really try not to bother people when they do it.

and to Bella's point, if you know what mansion to request, you can get a good location! Like we stayed at Magnolia Terrace which was right at the East Depot bus stop AND a short walk to the main lobby area. it was a great location.

Id say yes as well and cant really add much because Bella and DD summed it up in a nice pretty package with a red bow with cherries ontop

I have to agree with DD about their renovation procedure. We stayed at OKW when they were doing the renovations, and in fact they were doing the building directly next to the one we were staying in, and we were in the studio closest to the renovations and we NEVER heard a sound. We did see workers as we left and arrived but they took care not to interfere with parking.

Well, I did call this morning to see if I could switch, and they told me the resort was booked. Boo! I will try again next week. No biggie if we can't switch...

In an unrelated note, this trip is getting more iffy by the day....I mentioned my shoulder surgery week after next, and found out this morning I have to have knee surgery to fix a tear after that.

I'm only 47 and falling apart. Grrrr!

I know how you feel. I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis about 9 months ago, and it sucks! Imagine having your skin feel like a sunburn, and rheumatoid arthritis in your hands. The last Disney trip HURT so bad... lol.... but next trip should be a lot more enjoyable because we think we have it under control. But do what you need to do man. Want ya healthy!

Sorry to hear that, Jeff! Is this because you were a star athlete in your "younger" days?

I hope the trip continues ahead, and I think I'm right in the middle of the POFQ/POR debate. I would stick with POR and try to get one of the newly refurbbed rooms, I think. But it's always nice to have the "no fear" approach and go with POFQ.

Haha - don't I wish that was the case, Bali! Unfortunately, I keep hearing the words "degeneration", "wear and tear" and "aging" gaah

I wonder how long it takes them to refurbish a section and open it back up to the public....hmmm.

Hey I have that too! I've had it since I was 20..it is awful! You need to move somewhere warm. My doctor told me it would be much worse if I lived up north. Another reason Bella will never move.

Oh Jeff! I want you to feel better soon! Hopefully Joe will bake you lots of cookies!

We need a forum for Disney lover's with autoimmune disorders. I don't have that exact diagnosis but another from the family of autoimmune disorders. I leave for WDW in 10 days and yesterday I had swollen knee and ankle joints. I couldn't walk! With trip to WDW scheduled in 10 days I figured I needed a steroid shot right away. Went to a doc in the box yesterday and she fixed me up. Today I can get around a little. Still stiff and sore but getting better. Worst case scenario, I guess I could rent one of those ECV things.

We have terrible luck with having health problems either right before we leave or right when we get there. Hope you're feeling better by the time you go!

Before I was diagnosed with this I was getting cortisone shots in my hands and wrists. Oh how I hated them! But man... I felt like a kid for a couple days... lol

Hi,

Remember that to pick someone's brain, you need a surgical saw.

I'd join that forum, while mine isn't exactly autoimmune, it's the best fit. I have fibromyalgia and boy does it make walking disney a difficult thing, Between sleeping less and pushing my body by the end of the week I can barely walk.
