When do you pack?

I'm 16 days out from WDW and I'm dying to pack! Honestly I'm obsessing over it. I keep counting my outfits and trying to figure if I have too much or too little. I bought extra allergy medicine at the market this morning for my "travel pharmacy". I really want to get it all into the suitcase and sit the the thing next to the door!

When do you start packing? Are you a fly by the seat of your pants night before type? Or do you crazily obsess over it like me? How long before your trip do you start gathering things together?

Ha - I'm at 80 days out and I have my packing list ready already!

I wanted to put the suitcases out this weekend but Joe said I was "premautre". He might have actually said "immature", but I will go with hearing "premature".

I seem to be the oddball here. I pack the morning we are leaving. But, it does work for me. So far I have never forgotten anything.

I try to get all our clothes and food/drinks packed the night before. I do all the bathroom items the morning of.

I'll start thinking about what to pack a couple of weeks before but the cases usually come out about a week before and the final bits go in as we are leaving.

Depending on where I'm going, how long I'm going and how busy my week is I have packed any where from a week before up to the night before.

When I went to WDW the last two years, I left on a Friday and packed on the Sunday before. Any clothes I washed for the trip went straight in to the suitcase.

I usually pack a week before and sometimes the weather changes and we have to get things out of the suitcase to use that day but I wash them and pack it back up. Then load everything in the van the night before. Last year we left straight from my work so its important to me to have everything ready and not leave anything up to my husband to forget. Oh excuse me I mean pack. laugh

Kristen, I'm the same way! I pull out the suitcase about a week before and things start getting put in. I actually already have my typed up packing list (see my countdown...sad I know...) My BF however, waits till the last minute which drives me nuts 'cuz what if he forgets something and and and...ok Im a control freak...haha..but seriously...nothing worse than forgetting your bathing suit...

I'm having packing issues as well, and I will only be in Disney for 2 days, but in orlando for 9....

Should I wear long jeans or shorts? I'm not certain, as it is basically a whole day affair...

Also, Would the Pop century room have the basics? soap, shampoo, etc, or should I pack everything?

I pack as soon as its socially acceptable...or as soon as I know that no one will be seeing my suitcase sitting there all packed. biggrin But I start making lists weeks in advance so that I don't forget anything.

When we take the Auto Train, we'll have the groceries packed as soon as we've done our final shopping, usually a few days before departure. Suitcases don't start to fill until after the last load of laundry is done, usually a day or two before departure. But I also have lists of everything I want to bring that are prepped long before the trip and printed as much as a week before departure.

great list. I had to laugh at panty hose being on the list. That's the last thing I would bring.

Address labels are a great time saver while on vacation. When I went to Europe a couple of years ago, I made address labels for all the people I was planning on sending post cards too.

I start my packing list as soon as I book my trip and I start laying out our clothes to take at least a month before hand. But I live in Michigan so most of the clothes that get packed for Disney haven't been worn and won't be worn for some time, so it's totally find to have them "occupied." They don't go into the suitcases until the day or two before we leave though.

So I was packed over the weekend, and today I decided that I wanted to take different suitcases and give my daughter her own. So I unpacked and re-packed again. Let me just say I LOVE the packing cubes that I got from Eagle Creek. Oh my gosh it made even that chore a breeze!

Kristen K: Duh! this may be a dumb question but what are packing cubes? Is that another name for those space saver vacum packing bags that you suck all the air OUT with a vacum cleaner? If it is I used those for the first time on our last trip and they work GREAT.

No, they aren't the vacum ones, they just organize and slightly compress. I have a folder that helps me fold my clothes in a uniform size, then this envelope folds over them and keeps everything neat. Then I have a two sided cube that I rolled T-shirts into on one side and socks/undergarments on the other and it zips up. So then when you put the cubes in your suitcase nothing moves around and everything stays organized. They sounds really boring and useless, but once I packed their brilliance was so obvious.

Ooh, great idea!

When I travel interstate., I usually pack the night before, or that morning. For my Disney honeymoon, I will probably start packing about 1-3 months before hand! wink Since it will still be kinda cold here for us, I can pack my summer clothes, and not need to take them out of the suitcase before hand to wear them.

I'm making myself a deal today. If I finish all my schoolwork before too late, I can start making my Disney lists! Its the only way I'll stay on track.
