You guys are a bad influence

All the talk here about the wonders of staying on site has brought me to where I am now; pondering trading or selling my reservation at a swanky off site resort to stay at a luxury on site resort.

I'd like to get some input from those who have experience with these things as I'm really looking for logistical information/feasibility. My vacation property company is affiliated (albeit vicariously - but functionally the same) with DVC. I can exchange my points or week for comparable DVC points or week. Here's the problem...in order to do so you have to bank your vacation that has already been booked. Once you do so, it's there, and you can't get it back. Once banked, you can search available options, but not before. So, it would cost me $189 to MAYBE find something decent to exchange for.

Other options are trading directly with a DVC member (and I will check out the boards mentioned in the DVC rental thread) or selling my week and renting DVC points. The place I'm staying is great, so I'm not going to do anything risky to try to stay on property. Just trying to determine the likelihood of working this out in the given time frame (trip is Sept. 19th).

The accommodations I have booked already sleep 8 and is 1,350 sq. ft. It's five minutes or so from the World. Think there's a reasonable chance I could work something out with the right DVC owner? Specifics as far as the transfer, I'm not concerned about, as there are options there. Main sticking to me is DVC property availability (especially something comparable) and finding an interested owner on relatively short notice.

Hmm...I can't help on this one as I'm not a member, but I'm sure MouseTraveler, Imagineer, Vettelover, and others can help!

Bump!

Hrm...I'd say it's probably safest to stick with what you know. You were looking forward to it already and you're playing it risky by changing it up, especially since it's a surprise for DW. I say you stay on site for your next trip as that can be the exciting change up for next time.

Also, are you and DW staying in a place that sleeps 8 by yourself? eek

Yeah, sadly, I think that's the best option. Guess that will just make me that much more eager for my next trip.

And yes, it is just me and the wife. The sitting areas and master bedroom are nicer in the bigger place. Most time will be spent in the parks, but we will have meals there and enjoy some down time.

Who's DW? Disney Wife?

Close -- "Dear" Wife is what I've always known DW to represent, but I guess it COULD be "Disney wife!"

Don't ask me why I was randomly thinking about your trip the other day, but I was, and I was thinking also that it's a good idea to go someplace you're familiar with when you're trying to execute a surprise. It will be easier to make things work out when you know the lay of the land. Plus it gives you something to look forward to (staying on site) on the next trip. Also those slides look really cool. awesome
