This one I would not even have to think about. Usually we go both in September and in January. January wins hands down. September is still hot and in fact we have had it be much hotter than our June trips. While we have just started going in September we have always gone in January. We have never had a full day of rain in January. We have also only had two trips that were even what we would call on the cold side. Most Januarys are still warm enough for us to be in shorts and sandals. (we are from the north so we do not mind it being cooler). We do sometimes need light jackets in the mornings and evenings.

Actually September would... It would be September of 2014 or January of 2015... But if you guys say weather is better in January we will still go then even though it's farther away

Aw bummer. I thought you'd go January 2014. Whoops.

I like September. The only downside is it can be very hot, but the crowds are very light and if you go at the end of September, you can catch the start of the Food & Wine Fest!

I mean we could go tin 2014. It is an option... but it would be like getting our birthday present really early. But it is a possibility. My worry is... I dont want my parents to do anything else for us because giving us their points is already a lot, and I just know if we go that January... they would still do something come August. Now they still may even if we go the following year... so who knows really?

We've never been there in January, but we've always feared colder weather. Sounds like from others say that's not so much an issue.

We've gone the latter part of September, and here are the perks and pitfalls from my perspective:
1. It's my birthday! What other reason do we need?!
2. We were there for 10 days, and for 9 of those days it was ungodly hot (near 100) & humid. as. hell. My camera would fog up alot from going in to A/C and out to the humidity. I had a hard time enjoying just walking around, and found myself constantly looking for the next indoor activity.
3. MNSSHP! You guys would totally enjoy that Smile
4. It's after school starts, so the crowds were pretty light
5. We got free dining in September!

I will say when we went in December 201, there were a number of mornings it was at or near freezing. But, but late morning, it warmed up nicely, and was gorgeous in the afternoon.

Can't speak for January, but my working theory is that it's alot easier to dress for the chillier weather and then remove clothing as it warms up, than it is to deal with the super-hot weather. You can certainly start removing clothes in the heat, but I am guessing you will not be allowed back in the park for a long time....

We did change our ride plans a bit due to the weather - we had no desire to do Splash Mountain at 9:00 am when it was still only 40 degrees.

For us, though, Joe has a medical condition that really makes cold weather (cold being < 45 or 50, more or less) difficult for him, so from that perspective, we would take the hot and humid over the cooler and not humid.

Ok, I have to weigh in. I have been a couple of times in the past as you can see below. I also live in Florida and have expeienced every time of year... avoid July and August at all costs. June is pretty awful, too. Crowds and hot.

Now I am a BW fan above all else. Being August is your anniversary, I would suggest not postponing joy too long and go either the last week in September or first half of October. The weather has started to break a bit by then, it is drier than summer and crowds are minimal as kids are in school without any holidays that allow families to take off for WDW. They cannot afford the time away from school so soon after the new school year starts.

I suggest planning for afternoons and nights in the parks sleeping late since the kids are not with you. BW is great because the dueling piano bar is right there as well as Atlantic Dance. Youmcan walk to two parks and Mase can get his Japanese with ease. There are five major hotels in a cluster so you can bar hop at night if you want to and it's not waiting for buses to return to your room.

January in Florida can be extremely cold. I would not plan a vacation to a place where I want to enjoy the sun, be in shorts and sit around the pool at that time of year. BW has several quiet pools which are very pleasant. If you have the points and can manage it, stay in a small villa to have the extra space. That way you can also make breakfast in your room if you want, but Boardwalk Bakery downstairs ain't too shabby for a quick meal to start the day.

Flying Fish is usually outstanding and just around the bend you have the fancy Place in France around the back, I think it is Bistro des Paris?? Anyway it is the one back by the patisserie and not down by the crowds. So many reasons to go to BW.

The big reasons for me at this time are crowds, good temps and fewer kids. I hate to be a curmudgeon but now that my kids are all at college, I dream of Disney where they give us the equivalent of an adult swim in the parks...that would be magical.

Ok.... my wife and I just got done Facetiming with my Dad. There is good news, and then there is great news. The good news first. He told us we could use any amount of points we desire, and told us to go when we want to go. That kinda floored us a bit. We have been tryin to do this on as little to no points as possible, and he straight up told us to go when we wanted. But here is the thing... obvious we dont want to do August. We dont want to even do June or July... Could do September... but we hate hot.... lol. If I could move us to Minnesota... I would! So we really have settled with January. My Dad also gave us the go ahead to to 7 days. As a family we usually go 6, but we get to go 7!

So if that wasnt the great new.... then what is it? We got the ok to go in 2014 of January! We get to go early! He said either way since were doing it in January, it will be a ways off from our Anniversary, so he said we might as well go the same year! So right now the tentative date is the 13th through the 20th and celebrate our Anniversary on the 14th which will make it kinda the same day.

Also... were gonna do the BWV. You guys convinced us, and our last trip there... just seems like the things to do since we both love Epcot and HS and its either a walk or a boat ride to both! So there ya go... Jess may say something... maybe? lol

Now im stoked!

See... were from Ohio. 50-70 degree weather is what we love. If we have to be in a long sleeve shirt or a hoodie were fine with that. And were not much for swimming... but if its in the 60's.... id still get in a pool... lol

But the dueling piano place I wanna check out badly! And there is a bakery downstairs? Is that the one actually on the board walk? Because that one is a w e s o m e!!!!!

He pretty much said it all... And so excited that it will be here a year sooner now with us going in 2014 vs 2015 Smile and I think we decided on January for the cooler temps. We are really not hot weather people and we aren't pool people at all... Probably won't even go to the pool the entire time we are there so the cooler temperatures and swimming won't matter... So excited to actually get to plan this ourselves... With your guys wonderful input of course Smile

Congrats on making your decision. I agree with you about the weather. It sounds like you guys are like us. We would rather take our chances with cooler weather than risk it being hot. I would suggest you maybe look and see when MLK day is that year. It will be much more crowed that weekend and that Monday. Enough so, that we avoid it.

FYI, we checked and MLK day is Jan 20 that year, so the parks will be crazy crowded that weekend or they have been before. We always avoid that and the Marathons at the begining of the month.

Ohhh so we should probably switch our week then? What week would you suggest?

I would not say it gets crazy busy but it does get enough so that we can tell the difference. My best guess is that the marathon will be Jan 4-5 in 2014 but I have seen nothing to confirm that. If it is, and you plan on going Mon - Mon you could go 6-13 or 27-3. If you do not need to stick to the Mondays you could go 21-28. We have been going the same week for several years now so it looks like we would be going 26-1.

How exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We went in January (forever ago)..the second week I think. Right after school was back in session and before MLK weekend and it was AWESOME! The crowds were low, low, low and the weather was great. Nice during the day but chilly when the sun went down. You HAVE to do Disney without kids--it is just so awesome! You guys are going to have a GREAT time!

Yeah.... the Monday to Monday is not set in stone... but we will need to keep it in January. I know my Dad said we can use as many points as we want... but if we dip into Feb. It goes up a bit for February. So maybe the end of the month is what it will be?

This is just another reason why the people on this board rock....we would of never thought of the MLK thing of the marathons. Because you mentioned it scrappy, you just might of saved us a ruined trip Smile
