Thanks, Nancy! I was really lucky to get to live across the street from my grandparents for 8 years while I was growing up and my parents were both self-employed (read: worked a TON of hours), so I got to spend a ton of time with my grandparents. I was definitely closer to my grandpa, but he passed away 12 years ago and in a way, I've been fortunate to get to have that time with just my grandma because we've become a lot closer as a result.

That sounds like such a nice community your grandma is in..when my great grandmother was in a nursing home..they didnt do much for them on holidays Sad

It used to be that way in our town, too. I remember when my great-grandmother was in the nursing home when I was a kid. It was so sad and depressing there, but Pennsylvania's lack of state tax for retirement income means that we're a hot spot for retirees, which has really created a boom in the nursing home business in our town!

The place that my grandmother lives is amazing. The building is limited to 40 residents - 20 that live mostly independently in personal care and 20 like my grandma that need specific or constant medical supervision that live in skilled care. We just happened to get lucky that there was a space available when she needed to move there because they usually have a waiting list. I've tried to attach pictures from the party. If it works, the activities coordinator is the Mad Hatter. His assistant is the Queen of Hearts. Alice is the daughter of one of the nurses and I'm the Cheshire Cat. Grandma was also the Queen of Hearts.

There is a brother and sister team that does a sing-a-long once a month and over the summer, one of the songs we sang was zip-a-dee-doo-dah, so when they opened up the floor for requests, I asked for It's a Small World. The keyboardist didn't know the music off the top of her head, so I got put on the spot for an a cappella performance. I've never been so grateful for the fact that these dear, sweet people don't hear very well!!

This is Awesome!!! It's so nice to see senior citizens being taken care of so well.

AliceMouse, Thank You So Much for joining us, And welcome!! welcome

My wife's family is from South Central PA, York specifically. And her Grandma is in a nursing home there. Just broke her hip a few weeks ago, and not sure what is next. My Grandma had also been in a nursing home for the past 3 or so years, and unfortunately we lost her this summer. It's true these can be depressing places, but the staff at all places I have had experience with have been great! It is sad for anyone to have to be in that place but so good to know there are people that have big enough hearts to make their last days the best they can be. I think it is awesome that the place your Grandma is had a Disney themed party! Must bring smiles to their faces! Best of luck and pixie dust to you and your family!!

Thanks, MagicMirror mickey We just went to our costume party for the season last night. I did Cheshire Cat (obviously) and my husband was the Mad Hatter. We did a lot of advance planning this year--we'll be expanding on these costumes for MNSSHP next fall!

Mad Hatter--we are only about 20-25 minutes away from West York! Let me know if you'll be in the area visiting sometime and would like to meet up! crazycatperson is nearby, also.

Yes, I am, and will be quite happy to meet anyone in the area. Or even to drive a bit to meet folks. Eastern PA, Baltimore, D.C., and similar distances are all easily doable.

A few of my friends totally get it, but most are confused by my obsession because we've made a conscious choice not to have children and they seem to think that the only reason to go to WDW is to take the kids. I'm equally baffled by their crazy ideas...

LOL, and I agree completely clapping
