Disney has announced plans for a live-action film based on the popular Jungle Cruise attraction and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been announced as the star of the as-yet-unnamed film. Johnson is also one of the stars of Disney's animated film Moana where he'll play the demigod Maui.
A Jungle Cruise film has reportedly been in the works for some time now, with stars like Tom Hanks and Tim Allen rumored to be attached to the film. While the plot of the Jungle Cruise film is unknown, the scrip will be written by John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (Crazy Stupid Love).
There are reports that the film will be a "period piece" rather than a film set in modern times.
Disney has been trying to repeat the success of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise with films based on other theme park attractions. There is also a Haunted Mansion film in the works with Ryan Gosling in the lead role.
There is no release date yet for the Jungle Cruise movie.
