Disneymoon...where to stay??

Hey everyone! So I have been reading a lot about how much you all enjoy staying at each resort, and why. But here is my dilemma...we were seriously considering renting DVC points and staying at Boardwalk, Bay Lake, or Beach Club, and the cost to do that plus tickets and the deluxe dining plan are about the same as the price of staying at POR which is our other option. The biggest thing that I am concerned about is missing out on some significant savings with the free dining plan that is typically offered in the fall....HELP!!! LOL, any insight/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again!!

If you rent dvc points, you can't get the free dining I believe.

If you stay a POR and you get the free dining plan, its only the basic, not the deluxe and you would have to pay to upgrade. You really have to play with the numbers.

I know we can't get the free dining with DVC, that's where my dilemma is. I think it is about $600 to upgrade to the deluxe dining from the regular dining plan based on what I have researched so far the price between the two is not really that different. I feel like we should just pull the trigger and splurge on DVC to stay at a Deluxe. So I guess the next question would be between Beach Club, Bay Lake, and Boardwalk...where would you stay? I have heard great things about Boardwalk minus the bussing situation, I stayed at Beach Club once a long time ago and the pool was awesome. I have not stayed at a Magic Kindgom resort since about 1990 at the Polynesian and I think it was nice? LOL I was 5 so not much memory of the hotel. Decisions, decisions. mickey

Which park do you enjoy more? Epcot or MK? Personally, I would rather stay at BWI or BCV b/c of the proximity to Epcot and the food and beverage opportunities (particularly if you will be there during F&W Fest). However, if you're not an Epcot fan, then BLT will give you the MK proximity and hopefully a MK view!!

You can't go wrong either way!! Put all 3 names in a hat and pick one out!! If you rent DVC points the decision may be made for you. I tried to rent at BCV for my Nov trip and there were no rooms available, so I ended up at AKL.

We were at POR last week for the first time. I'll say that the resort is pretty and there are a lot of great things about it. We had a terrible time with housekeeping though. Please understand this isn't a Disney bash b/c we had a GREAT trip. Just disappointing housekeeping. We didn't have our room cleaned the first full day. We were gone 12 hours the second day and returned to find our blinds open and the door propped wide OPEN. The beds were made but nothing else was done. It looked as if the housekeeper was interrupted while cleaning, left, and forgot to return. Luckily nothing was taken because the door could have been wide open like that for several hours. We called the front desk, but the response I was given when I explained the problem was, "I'm sorry you feel that way." HUH???? It's not a feeling - this is what happened. I asked to speak to a manager, none was available and they were supposed to call back, but that never happened. No one was available to speak to us when we checked in at the lobby later in the week either. Ultimately we refused further cleaning b/c we couldn't ensure they would lock our door and we didn't want anything stolen. We heard a few other stories on the ME back to the airport as well, but I won't share those b/c they are second hand.
This was so NOT a Disney experience for us. I've never experienced this and it was surprising and disappointing. It didn't ruin our trip and obviously we'll be going back since we bought into DVC. I also called after I returned to tell Disney about the problem and the staff at the call center was awesome. They listened to the issue, offered apologies, and promised to provide feedback to the management. They also offered us a ton of stuff. I told them I didn't want anything at all - I just thought they would probably want to know our experience because I know this isn't what Disney is all about.

Anyway, just wanted to share with you. I don't think I'd stay at POR again, unfortunately.

I'm sure that Guest communications has received several phone calls/emails this week about the issues that were experienced. I'm also sure that Disney will work hard to get them straightened out right away!

The last time we stayed at POR Mousekeeping was excellent, so maybe this is just a blip that will be resolved by the time you get there

Jamie - sorry to hear about your poor experience

We definitely will be attending the Food and Wine Festival so Epcot would make sense, and you make a good point that the resorts we want may not be available, and unfortunately we will not know until the 26th of this month since that marks 11 months until we plan on going. I am pretty sure I picked Boardwalk as our number one choice, but I am sure that I can verify this before we hit our 11 month mark to put our top choices as Epcot area resorts.

Thank you for the feedback! This is so surprising since so many of the people on this forum recommend POR. I am so sorry that happened, but luckily you did not have anything stolen. I would have been pretty upset if that happened to us as well. I am hopeful that it was just bad timing, but I think that we are leaning more toward doing the DVC since it is our honeymoon and we might as well splurge a bit for this one time thing! muchlove

My dream Disneymoon resort is actually Wilderness Lodge, but my second for a Disneymoon would probably be Boardwalk. I think it's just a little more romantic for a Disneymoon than the Beach Club would be, though normally I think I'd prefer the BC!

This is interesting. I was at POR last week too and although I didn't have the exact same issues you did with Mousekeeping, I definitely noticed a decline in the services throughout the week. The first day was great, the second was what was expected, and the rest of the week it was almost as if they did the bare minimum and hoped I didn't notice. Beds were not made correctly (bedspread just pulled up, not remade), towels not replaced. I assumed it was b/c I was just one person and they assumed I could just make due with the extra towels.

I agree, it wouldn't keep me from going back to Disney, but I was quite disappointed, to the point I did not leave a Mousekeeping tip on the last day b/c service had degraded so much.

This is your honeymoon. It only happens once. (unless you remarry again!) Splurge. I say this on this forum all the time about honeymoonin', but I remember our honeymoon more so than any other vacation and it was 5 years ago. You will be glad you splurged on the hotel.

We rented DVC points for this last trip and stayed at the Boardwalk. I felt it was very romantic and we enjoy EPCOT the most so it made sense to stay there.

In 2 weeks we will be able to figure out what resorts are available for renting DVC points, so fingers crossed that ANY of our choices are available! The more I am thinking about it, the more I want to stay closer to Epcot due to F&W Fest. So hopefully BW or BC are available. crossfingers

If you are going during Food and Wine I would do something like BC and not worry about free dining since you'll be grazing around WS so much anyway.

Yeah, with F&WF I'd definitely pick Boardwalk as my first choice (just because you've already done BC) and BC as second. Since you may have trouble with availability for an Epcot resort around this time, though, Contemporary is another awesome option. That would be my #1 choice of the 3 any other time of year besides F&WF.
