This was actually the first time I hung out in Liberty Square, usually it's Adventureland for me. I usually just walk through Liberty Square without looking at the details. This time it was all about the details for me. I am a history buff and the American revolution is one of my favorite time periods, I was surprised to discover that we actually spent about 4 hours total in Liberty Square throughout the day.
We started our day with Waffles at Sleepy Hollow, then we stopped in the Christmas store. My traveling companion was playing SotMK and on the Liberty Square Quest so we did a couple of those stops. Then we looked at the Liberty Tree, Liberty Bell, and the Flags surrounding it. Each one of these things has a little plaque to read about the history, I took lots of pictures. Next we saw a family on a guided tour and ease-dropped as the child was rummaging around in some bushes and found a note left for him from Peter Pan! After that we strolled into the Hall of Presidents and looked at all of the museum pieces. I was fascinated by George Washington's Beer Mug, but soon it was our turn to watch the show. After we came out I needed to stop back at the Christmas shop and then I noticed a sign saying "Heritage Center" so we went in there. I was a little disappointed to see that it was actually a Jack Skellington themed store with just a little "family crest" look up shop in the corner. Having studied medieval heraldry for several years I really hate those little shops, but I know that many Americans think they're great. Next Erik did another SotMK stop (where he ran into DisneyDee by chance!) and then we took a relaxing Riverboat ride. It was about lunch time when we got off of the Riverboat. We ate (in Froniterland) but then headed right back to do the Haunted Mansion and a little more Liberty Square Shopping. As we were strolling back from Frontierland I made sure to look for the "River" in the park that represents the Mississippi, we found it and laughed at it's tiny size and I commented that it should somehow be marked like the Liberty Tree is. After the Haunted Mansion I saw Princess Tiana before heading to Adventureland. Later that night we returned to Liberty Square for Dinner.
Liberty Square is easy to walk through, and I had done it most of my life without stopping to see the details, read the signs and take pictures. However, it doesn't have to be. If you pay attention and take your time it's a lovely place to spend part of the day.
