DVC Points Rental or Just Reserve a Room?

Hi all -

I need some advice (or maybe I just need to hear like minded people tell me I'm not crazy, I don't really know). I'm going to register for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon (already registered for the Tower of Terror. Going for broke this year, literally). I'm debating between "renting/buying" DVC points from David's Disney Vacations (seems reputable from what I've read on this forum!) and trying to get a Boardwalk villa or just going through irunwdw for the discounted moderate resorts. I'm a little nervous about renting points from a website, especially since it's non-refundable, but that seems to be the better deal, as both end up being the same price (so more bang for your buck). Any thoughts or reassurances?? Are there any benis to booking with irunwdw that I'm missing (doesn't seem to be a "give away" like there was last year...) Looks like I'm probably going solo again, so I don't really have anyone else's opinion to worry about!

A standard room and a DVC Studio have some significant differences. However, traveling on your own I don't think that they would really matter, besides maybe in the Studio you wouldn't have housekeeping. I would probably rent the points.

Just an FYI, I checked DVC site online, and there are currently no studios showing available at BWV for Oct 4-6, and Nov 8-10. SSR and AKL studios are available Oct 4-6(I can't check Nov dates as still 7+ months out).

OOOO, And I have 2 waitlists: one for a garden view studio and one for a boardwalk view Studio for Oct. 4 - 6, that I am hoping to get, but I know that I probably won't. The F&W festival starts the week before. So I am not holding out too much hope that my waitlist will confirm. It might be tough to rent weekend points for BWV or BCV (which does not have studios available either, I just checked both resorts again.) because of F&W.

Well, that solves it then!! Smile Thanks all for checking!! Guess I'll have to try this scheme another time. But I've never stayed at POR, so it'll still be a new experience.

POR is our favorite as far as theme. it is huge, but that makes it awesome. It is really a theme that fits our personality. And we liked both Alligator Bayou and Magnolia Bend. Two totally different feels. It's like 2 resorts in 1.

POR is great. We stayed in the Alligator Bayou with a river view on our last trip and we loved it. Smile

Should I request a particular section when I call for reservations??

The beignets at the POFQ were calling to me as well, but I want to stay in as many different resorts as possible, and we just stayed there last May. But I figure it's just a quick boat ride (or walk, although after 13.1 miles, not sure that's an appealing option) to that fried, powder sugary goodness!!

We stayed in Building 27...we had a corner room which had a great view of the river and we were very close to Riverside Mill, but still in a quiet area which wasn't remote. And the boat ride over to French Quarter really is a quick one so you can pick up the beignets...lol.

In Magnolia Bend we were in Oak Manor and I really liked it! In Alligator Bayou we were in a corner room in Bldg 18, great location to everything, next to a quiet pool, and a pretty quick walk to the boat! We have stayed at POR twice and were happy with our location both times. It all depends on what you like and what is important to you.

Thanks all!! I have a reservation at POR and am on the waitlist for a studio at AKL through David's DVC Rental. Thanks again for everyone who researched availability at BWV and BCV and for the advice on POR!

Don't give up hope, some DVC owners will book some nights then rent their booked reservation out. So, it is possible that you could end up with a BCV studio from an owner who already has it booked, while my waitlist never confirms.

Woohoo!! I was just notified today that David's DVC Rentals was able to secure me a room at AKL for the W&D 1/2! AKL wasn't my first choice, but I'll be staying in a nice, new-to-me resort for only $100 more than at POR! I'm so excited. My credit card, however, not so much, since it's now got 2 reservations on it for the same time frame!! eek

We will be in Jambo House (unless my waitlist confirms). We have never stayed at AKL, so I am looking forward to it!

Whoo hooo!! I think you'll like AKL, though I could be a little biased as it's my Home resort.
