Non-residents drivers permit

i saw this in the news today, does anybody know anything about it? Says that non US residents now have to have an international driving permit.

I saw that on the local CAA website. Doesn't make much sense - the purpose of an international driving permit is to translate foreign permits into English. Last I heard, U.K. and English Canada permits ARE in English! Mine is, anyway! confused

it makes sense if your regular license is not in english, its basically a translation. But for those with english, it seems like a hugh waste of time & money.

At least the article says they won't be enforcing it. I read that they will amend the rule but that won't happen until spring/summer.

I am currently just happy that I've booked the Magical Express for my next trip so I don't need to worry about it yet!

My husband looked into it today. It costs 12.00 if you are a non caa member for the picture plus 25.00 per year for the license. Right now our local caa in Chatham is pretty much out of the licenses since many locals are heading down to the races soon. However my mom just called me and said she saw on the 6:00 pm news that the law is going to be amended just for licenses in a foreign language. We don't go down til the end of April so I am hoping that will all be fixed by then.

Read on another site that it contravenes the Geneva convention. At the moment as long as you carry your license from where you reside you are ok

This law is in the process of being repealed. The state House voted 116 - 0 to repeal it. It's in the Senate now.
