Flights of Wonder at AK

Ok so I have a huge fear of birds. Like, nervous breakdowns if I am in the same room as one. Ed really wants to see flights of wonder.I told him to go and I'll just go walk around and shop or something. However, I watched a video on youtube of what the show is like I think I could handle it. I would be nervous and pale the whole time. Probably a little nauseous and I don't think I would enjoy it for one minute. (birds doing tricks, even their natural ones really creep me out. I can't handle talking parrots or things like that). So my question to everyone is. Have you seen it? Is it worth it? Do the birds ever land on people or things like that?

On that note, while walking around AK or AKL are there wild birds that hang out? (peacocks, ostrich) I'm not talking ducks or seagulls. My fear is more centralized to exotic to birds or any bird you don't normally see in the wild. The more beautiful they are supposed to be the higher my anxiety level. Is there anywhere in AK that you suggest I avoid with my annoying fear I have?

Last time I saw Flights of Wonder (which was 10 years ago now) the birds stayed on stage for just about all of the show. There was one trick though where a bird flew out and took something from an audience member. That person did have to volunteer for it, so its not like you would wind up with a bird on you out of nowhere.

As for other areas in AK there's only one that I can think of. There's a small section of the Maharajah Trek that has some free roaming birds around the path. I'm pretty sure they're all smaller flightless ones.

I have seen Flights of Wonder quite a few times and if you have the fears you have stated, I would probably stay away, True most of the birds stay on the stage but numerous times the trainers have the birds fly out to the back of the theater and fly back to the stage flying LOW over the crowd. Also some of the birds are quite large, and that could add to your dislike of the show. Also Freya is right about flying out to someone in the audience and granted you would NOT volunteer for it, someone near you could and put you in GREAT discomfort. I am not trying tell you to go or not to but just telling you what happens in the theater. You will have to make up your own mind.
Also, somewhere I have some photos taken in Flights of Wonder, and if I can find them I will post a couple.

I seem to recall exotic birds roaming some parts of the AK park, but if you stay in the center of the walkways you should be able to avoid them.

As for the show, I agree that you should probably skip it. There's a chance you could end up with a large bird flying really close to you, so why take the chance?

Thanks everyone! Ed will probably go see it alone which is fine with both of us. As far as the roaming birds around the park. I should be fine as long as i can avoid them by moving away very quickly. HAHA.

Honeymoonin Here are some of the photos of Flights of Wonder, in the first one you have to look closely and you can only see the wingspan (white) of the bird flying overhead sorry my camera was new and I was still learning.

I definitely agree, I wouldn't go to Flights of Wonder if I were you. Throughout the show they have the birds fly low over the crowd to the back and sides of the theater. I think you would be very uncomfortable. There's an aviary on the M trail that you should avoid also. You have to go through the bat building to get there, so just turn around there.

Thanks Julie. I just looked up the Maharajah Jungle Trek. I would like to see the bats, ed does not want to see them. They bother me, but not as much as birds. They just look so cool. The size are amazing. While looking all that up I found some info about the Aviary, and that was my next question, can I turn around and go back before the aviary? i would like to see the tigers and the komodo dragon. I really like reptiles, and that dragon is amazing! I figured it's Disney, if anything I find a cast member, explain my issues and they send me through some door. =)

The bats are my favorite, you view them from inside a cabin type building, through a big window. Sometimes you can see the fruit bats eating the fruit hanging from the lines, it's cool. There's other animals in there also, rodents as I recall, it's been a while. You can just stop there, and go out the way you came in and not continue through the trail. I think if you continue the trail through the doors it takes you into the aviary. If in doubt, good idea to ask a cm. They are all over to help and answer questions about the animals.
