Old Tink, can you show me the link where you're seeing someone saying the predicted dates for free dining? I looked on the DisBoards and they are predicting the release date to be Monday but no one has any firm prediction of the free dining dates as you posted in your original post (Aug 28 - 2nd week in Dec) so I'm just curious where you're getting this info from.

I have a question about free dining. my husband and i have not booked out trip yet because I've been waiting to see if there are going to be good deals (like free dining). We plan on booking our trip ourselves through the waltdisneyworld.com. my question is if i book our trip now and free dining or anything like that become available will i get a refund if i have already paid for it? Or should i wait until they officially roll out the free dining to book?

You can go ahead and book now. If/when a discount becomes available YOU will have to call and get your refund though. Disney will not just automatically give it to you.

Thank you scrappy!!! now i have one more question... if i book our hotel, tickets and dining plan now without free dining I'm going to book a value resort but if we had free dining I'm going to book a moderate resort. so the question is if i book with the value resort and then get free dining can i change to a moderate resort?

I am sure you can. I am not 100% sure how that will work. We have never changed resort levels when changing reservations.

We are currently at POP for this September and are planning on changing to a moderate if a free dining offer comes out to take advantage of the DDP vs the QSDP. I know people in the past who have done this with no issues, you will just have to be flexible with what resorts and room types are available for the free dining.

Thanks Allie! we just booked at AoA and are going to switch to one of the moderate hotels if we get the free dining. I'm happy to know that it won't be a big deal to change if we decide to do that Smile

You can move around as much as resort space is available. ("HMMMMM, let me see. Should we let them bump up to a more expensive resort?) And as long as you booked thru Disney or one of their representative agents, they will just adjust the price after the promotion kicks in.
Our TA is waiting for something to be announced soon. If it's FD or resort discount and they block out POFQ, our TA is ready to pop us over to PORS immediately.

We originally wanted to stay at AoA (LOVE the Little Mermaid theming!), but once we heard that they never offer free dining, decided to switch to a value resort. However, after crunching the numbers, I went ahead and booked at a moderate. The room is so much nicer, and the cost of staying at a moderate and getting the free regular dining plan was the comparable to staying at a value resort and paying to upgrade the dining plans from quick service to regular.

Then again this was all on speculation. If free dining isn't offered for our dates...whoopsee! biggrin I will just suck it up because I fell in love with the room we booked!

Which moderate did you choose, Princess Cupcake? I've been to PORS and POFQ, and thinking about going to CS this time.

We changed to PORS...once I saw the Royal Rooms I knew I had to make it happen, there was no way I could stay anywhere else. I tell everyone I chose the room for my daughter, but in reality it was for me! laugh I have looked at many other resorts, and they are nice, but PORS seems just....magical! mickey I just wish they had the fifth fold away bed like in the Bayou so we could bring an extra person!

Just waiting to see if the "late summer promotion" (alias Sept) comes out Monday/tomorrow/21st. There are a lot of reports that CMs are being asked to be ready for overtime.....

Okay, first there is some family connection between two posters on DIS and the person who runs Dad's guide to Disney. They all linked to his post, so here it is in the original place.
http://dads-blog.dadsguidetowdw.com/whats-big-deal-free-dining/

Apparently he is suppose to be spot on when he does release information, but not always the "release date" as he originally stated FD for Sept would be out today (April 21). Be that as it may, it's still a form or rumor, although I have been "firmly" told that they are usually right.

Again, one of the "other sites" said that their father's friend, has a "guide" (not sure if that is a person or a flyer or just birdie whispers) who says the Sept FD is to start roll out on next Monday. Please, handler of pixie dust, we could use that! It's not like we won't spend the money somewhere else there.

Here is the Free dining is a go guys. "No specific dates yet but I'm working on it. Should closely mirror last year with dates eventually going into December. First dates could even include the last couple days of August".direct quote from Joe Black

I have no clue how spot on he is but I hope it makes you feel good?! Big smile

Thanks, but I'll wait until Disney announces it. It's usually a couple of days after the Disney Visa discounts are announced.

That's the link I was referring to that I'd already been looking at. Both links you posted are using Joe as their "source". You're original post stated:

oldtink wrote:
A guy on DIS site (who apparently has an inside source and considered very accurate) is reporting that Free Dining will be offered from Aug 28- second week in Dec with some black out dates. It will not be released all at once but rolled out a section at a time, with thru Sept coming out by early May. If this be so YEAH!!!! yay yay yay yay

which is very misleading to say because 1) Joe has clearly stated he has no inside source at Disney and all his predictions are based on rumors and digging through online posts and 2) he never confirmed any specific dates for the FD offer where as you quoted "Aug 28-second week in Dec". The exact quote from him that you linked says
"As for this year, it appears Free Dining will somewhat mirror last year, and may even include the last day or two of August. September Free Dining will probably be announced on Thursday May 1. It may be just for Disney Visa Card holders to start out with, but it might be for everyone. I'll post it on my Facebook page and let Dad know when we hear some more. If Free Dining does indeed run through December again this year, I see it sticking around for next year as well, though slimmed down."
Nothing in that states that it WILL be offered from Aug 28-second week in Dec. It is all speculation. Which is exactly why you shouldn't rely on these rumors to plan your vacation because it gets slightly altered each time someone retells it.

Actually, within all the postings there is "Joe" "Dad" and "the dad's daughter" who all post. I was just giving you the direct line. More of the postings yesterday and today are leaning towards Thursday, but we all wait and see. I don't believe they are misleading if some of them actually have some inside information, and historical patterns to base it on. The quote above is from "Dad" who was reporting on what he heard from Black and such. It doesn't matter either way. You either hope or you don't. No worries.
When I spoke with a CM on line last month, I asked if there was any news and told him we really wanted FD. His reply was, "Wait until next month and you'll be thrilled.
No matter, I will be up Thursday morning at 6 because if it is announced that means on Monday I will get a email from my TA when it goes public. She even told me that all the lines she is getting are indicating it is also going to happen. If it does happen - Yeah! I am going to WDW and saving another $700
If it doesn't Yeah! I am going to WDW for a week and nothing is spoiling that! clapping yay laugh

I wasn't saying the links are misleading. The links are very upfront about not promising anything, not knowing for certain, and having no specific dates. I was saying that your original post is misleading because it is worded in much more definite terms, stating that someone with insider information (none of the people you linked claim to have insider information, they all just gather speculations and look for patterns) has said there will be free dining from Aug 28-mid Dec (none of the people you linked gave specific dates, only "maybe the first couple of days of August" and "if it did last until Dec...", etc). I'm just pointing out that this is why you can't trust everything on the internet because it's like a big game of telephone and the story changes the more people it's passed through.

You can! I have always used a TA when doing this though so I'm not entirely sure what the process is if you do it online.

Made a similar change on my last trip when FD was offered. Was unable to make the change online, but called Disney and they were able to facilitate and post a refund.

Okay, I guess this is as good as it gets. I called Disney today to correct our email address as we have changed it. At the end of the call, I asked point blank, "Do you know if there is a 'late summer/Sept" promotion coming out this week or for gp on Monday?
His reply was, "Yeah, go ahead and book if you haven't. You're safe to assume there is something starting Monday." When I said I already had POFQ, he replied, "then Monday just ask your TA to adjust your reservation."

OKAY? NOT openly telling us just that it's FD but it's something starting. clapping clapping

Yhaaaa!
Can't wait! stars

The rumors are strong, as you had this info while calling WDW, as others have reported at DISboards and Daddy's something (don't recall the blog's name now...)

Both bloggers state that the free DP could be released today (it wasn't " so sad), next Monday or May 5th, while cardholders would be able to start booking in May 1st.

I hope Disney heads up everyone and releases next Monday, as I'm tired of waiting! Big smile Big smile

I was looking this morning for any announcement and my DH asked if I was disappointed. I repeated what our TA said, "Disney is NEVER without 'special offers.'" So we wait.

But I also realize a few other things.

I shared this on another thread here so I will make this brief because I don't go there often.
I watched my principal shot in front of me in the front hall of my school. I, along with others, gave first aide, but we didn't save him. That same morning on the way to school, a popular and talented junior boy was driving too fast and was killed on his way. That summer, I was diagnosed with late age onset of MS, now in remission, but it's always something you work to keep at bay.
At some point, if you are smart, you begin to step back and realize the gifts you have been given and time allowed to appreciate them.

1) I am truly grateful for what I do have - loving husband of over 30 yrs, 2 great kids/now talented adults, and we nowhave the chance to retire comfortably with hobbies and side careers that will keep us challenged and happy.

2) All our retirement plans fell in to place very quickly; house sold, we were able to rent our vacant church parsonage (while doing badly needed remodel)while waiting for this school year to end, and then we just signed on our retirement digs. We ordered new furniture for the living room because I was NOT moving the stuff we have that is old and worn out - and DH was excited (that never happens).

3) DS1 graduates Mother's Day weekend with his masters despite some emotional turmoil (he cancelled his wedding 6 wks before the event - we were actually relieved but that is another story). And for MD Sunday, the three men in my life are singing with me in our church, "I Hope You Dance." NO present beats that!

4) The Monday after MD is DH's last full choir concert (5-12) and he doesn't know that alumni far and wide, professional friends in music, teachers (past and present), all his current choirs, and family(large) are singing his favorite choral work; "Precious Lord, Take My Hand." No plaques or flowers to dry - just music. Perfect.

5)) DH and I are going to Disney in Sept with another couple we consider our close friends, who are almost newbies at Disney - should be a blast.

5) We are going to catch a couple days of F&W (&B).

My TA lost her mother-in-law yesterday, but because of her line of work, she is "on" all the time in order to make OUR trips magical, so I am not going to bother her anymore this week because I KNOW she will do her best for us while she deals with their family sorrow.

6) So if we land FD, or RD - yeah!!!!

7) If we don't, We are going to Disney - yeah!!!

Sometimes being happy just isn't that hard!

Thanks for letting me share.... muchlove

Oldtink you are certainly blessed. Congratulations to you on your son's graduation on MD. And what a wonderful send off to your husband. He is having is own "Mr. Holland's Opus" (one of my favorite movies). May God continue to bless you and yours.

Now the many different posts are saying Sept "promotions" are slatted for May 1. I am a little confused by the "only in Sept when there isn't F&W" part but that means FD for two weeks. TA told me weeks ago that Disney does NOT do 2 week promos. The TA and their own CMs would mutiny! I love to see that! rolling rolling rolling rolling
