Fun facts about Animal Kingdom

It's the largest theme park ever built

The tree of life is based off a Bonsai tree in Epcot

You were originally going to be able to go to the top of the tree of life and there was going to be a restaurant at the bottom of it called roots

Originally there was no chimp on the tree of life, they added it to the tree in honor of Jane Goodall

The base of Tree of Life is an upside down oil rig to provide enough space for them to use the bottom. Most people know this but Camp Minnie-Mickey was supposed to be Beastly Kingdom but they ran out of money to complete it. Festival of the Lion King was a last minute addition to the park and they were going to get rid of it eventually. Expedition Everest is 199 1/2 feet tall, at 200 feet, they would of had to point a red blinking light on top of it. Animal Kingdom was ready to open two months before it was supposed to open but everyone wanted to wait because they wanted to open on Earth Day.

Probably my favorite non-personal WDW story is about one aspect of the Animal Kingdom's planning stages. One of the ideas about what should be immediately inside the front gate was a parade of animals walking to Noah's Ark towards the middle of the park.
An astute participant asked something like, "Let's see if I understand this correctly. waiting The first thing everyone is going to see when they come inside our park is a parade of butts?"

Many of the animals in AK are "rescue" animals from the area around Chernobyll.

Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Magic Kingdom could all be fitted in Animal Kingdom. Magic Kingdom alone could fit in Kilimanjaro Safaris.
