Harry Potter Report

Apparently, some folks who were at an Orlando convention last week got a chance to enter the Wizarding World and ride some of the attractions. They even got to try butterbeer!!!! (Report: smooth, thicker cream soda -- topped off with a dairy "foam" -- available in a frozen or regular version)

Here are some of the reports from the actual visit (no pictures allowed, but some tweeters snuck some in...):

I saw an advertisement for it recently. I don't watch that much TV, have the ads been running heavily yet?

I haven't seen any ads, yet dsoup. But those pics are really fun. I'm looking forward to going to Olllivanders and seeing what kinds of interactive things they have on tap.

We're getting TV ad's in the UK quite regularly.

I haven't seen a ton of them. I wonder if they're more common in Britain? Maybe Universal is trying to make some inroads there.

I've seen a few ads and tv spots but not many. I think it's so highly anticipated they don't need to waste money advertising!

I'm definitely heading to Olivaner's in August! I can't wait to see Hogwarts as well. It seems like this will be a very different type of theme park experience and I'm very excited for that.

The effects and plants as you walk by remind me of little touches Disney would make sure to put it to give the park the extra feel of being real. Maybe Universal is catching on.

Yes! I heard about the interactive features that will be there when you walk by them! Sounds very cool. (A lot like what Disney's doing on their cruise ship...)

To most Brits, Orlando is about all the parks, not just Disney. It's probably meant to grab the attention of those who are considering a holiday but are undecided on where to go. Show the kids Potter Land and they'll want to visit.

Why don't they just go to the real Hogwarts! It's right there!

Seriously -- does King's Cross Station have any sort of a "tribute" to the Hogwarts Express? That'd be cool to see.

It sure looks like I am in the minority on this one lol. I have no desire to see it at all. I tried to read the books when they first came out. I only got through maybe one chapter. Mr Hub watches the movies but even they do not hold my interest.

I've never read the books or seen the movies. I hear they're pretty good, might be the next big thing. sarcastic

I think that not being interested in the parks isn't that unusual, but it's pretty rare not to have enjoyed the books. I'm sure they're not for everyone, but part of the reason Mrs. Rowling is the richest woman in England (I think) is because she knew how to write something that could appeal to a wide variety of people. I know people who never bothered to try reading them, but I haven't met that many who put it down. What kind of books do you like usually? I read so much non-fiction now that it's hard to say if I'd pick up the HP books now.

To be honest, I would like to read the books but have not been so inclined as to pick them up. I have literally dozens of books yet to read and am always in the middle of a few. DW and I do plan to watch the movies sometime soon though (with the understanding that the books are better).

I really enjoyed them. They reminded me of some of the books I loved as a kid that still stand up like A Wrinkle in Time. I woudln't put them in the same category but they tickle the same urge a little bit.

The books are so good! I'm a bit obsessive over them! The first was tough to get through the first time but after you do it's impossible to stop!

Scrappy -- Maybe if you guys go see the HP Wizarding World, you'll be swept away with enthusiasm! Wink (Confession: I've never really gotten into Lord of the Rings, so I'm an outcast in the "classic book" dept, too.)

LIFL -- Those books are true tomes, so I can understand that with your and DW's busy lives, it's hard to dedicate time to read them. Maybe during your leisurely WDW vacay in December you can read one! Wink
