Hi!

Hi! My name is Gayle. I'm 27 years old, married, and from South Carolina. I recently booked a trip to WDW for my 2 year anniversary...in August. I'm hoping that, since my husband and I survived a sweaty August wedding in southern Louisiana, we'll survive our trip to WDW mostly unscathed. It'll be his first time visiting...I can't even recall how many times I've been, but the last time I was there was back when I was 13. I'm looking forward to experiencing WDW from a grownup perspective and picking up tidbits from everyone here. biggrin

Hi Gayle! Welcome to the forums!

Under any other circumstances I'd warn you away from an August trip, but I've been to Louisiana and I can say that you're from the one place where Florida might seem less humid.

Have you made all your arrangements? Resort, food, etc?

Oh, Welcome, Gayle! What a fun trip! Don't worry about the heat and humidity - you'll survive. Our experts here will tell you to build some time in for being in the pool and taking afternoon breaks - excellent advice! And don't forget all the fun splash pads - when in doubt, join the kiddoes for a cool off! Smile

My mom tried to talk me out of an August trip. I was initially leaning toward booking a trip a bit later in the year, but my husband couldn't be swayed. We wanted to go to Gatlinburg, TN for our first anniversary and we kept putting it off and ended up staying home. Maybe he thinks that if we don't celebrate in August, it doesn't count as an anniversary celebration. Party

We'll be staying at the Grand Floridian, have park-hopper tickets, no water parks for us, and we have the Magic Your Way Package with Dining, but that's all that I have so far. I've been looking into booking dinner reservations, but I wasn't sure how necessary it was so I'm going to poke around on here first to see what I can find out, as I don't know very much about WDW restaurants.

Oh, trust me! We are definitely planning on spending time at the pool! Smile We'll have to keep an eye out for these splash pads!

Hey Gayle! Welcome!

I'd recommend going ahead and making some dinner reservations. The good stuff can fill up. You've still got a while, but some stuff can be hard to get. There's a vicious cycle where every year people make reservations earlier because of things filling up, so things fill up earlier, so people make reservations earlier...etc.

You can still have a great time without reservations, but you usually have to be pretty easy going about where you eat then. What kind of food do you like?

Looks like I will be making reservations then! Smile It'll give me another reason to be excited about the trip!

I love Italian and Greek food. My husband likes Chinese and Japanese, he also loves sushi and seafood. We both like a good cheeseburger.

I did make a reservation at Teppan Edo. We have a hibachi grill near us that we enjoy, so hopefully that will be a good choice.

Does Italian include pizza? We loved our last trip to Via Napoli. Flying Fish is also a great option for those who love seafood, plus it has a great steak. Flying Fish is 2 credits though I believe.

Teppan Edo is a good time. It's probably very similar to your hibachi place at home.

Welcome welcome!! So glad to have you here!

I'll gladly chime in on the food (have you checked out The Disney Food Blog for ideas?). Here's their review on Via Napoli (which Brad mentioned) that you guys might enjoy. Everyone seems to like it a lot. For sushi, people really like Tokyo Dining and California Grill (2 credits).

They've just built a new Greek restaurant, Kouzzina, that's headlined by Cat Cora. Reviews have been mixed. Nobody hates their meal, but people who really like Greek food tend to think it's a little low on the authenticity.

Can't wait to hear more about your trip!!!

Hello everyone!
My husband and I will be taking our 7 year old twins to disney for the second time in may. The problem is with soo many restuarants I am having trouble deciding when we are going to eat. That in itself is a big problem because alot of the restuarants are booked completely for the week that we will be there!! We really would like about 4 casual dining experiences and 3 lunch or cs experiences. We love all types of food(no sushi) and are really looking forward to trying things that we couldn't eat here in louisiana ( authentic food) I personnally can't wait for epcot I would love to eat my way around the world!! If anyone could suggest their favorites it would be extremely helpful. ( we have park hoppers so the location of the restuarants doesnt matter.

Hey Karrie! Welcome and you've come to the right place. We love to talk about food!

When you say "casual dining" are you thinking table-service? I"m guessing so, so I'll mention a few of my favorites here:

Liberty Tree Tavern
Boma
Restaurant Marrakesh is great if your kids will give it a try. Probalby the most authentic thing in Epcot I think.
Rose & Crown is another favorite in Epcot.
The Plaza can be nice and easy for casual.
Raglan Road in Downtown Disney can be really fun.

Are the kids picky?
I'm really anxious to try Via Napoli too. Do you guys like pizza?

For CS I'd highly recommend Wolfgang Puck express and Earl of Sandwich. Also Tangierine Cafe in Epcot is a great one.

If you like those I've got lots more. If you don't like em I've got more too! laugh

Hmm....well some lesser know restaurants that are just as good are: Kona Cafe at the Poly (for breakfast or dinner) The Grand Floridian Cafe in the Grand Floridian, Olivia's at Old Key West and Trails End Buffet at Fort Wilderness. Those are places you can typically get an ADR last minute or do a walk-up. Free dining is happening in May so ADR's were snatched up early.

For eating around the world I suggest just getting something small at each counter service location. The hubs and I do this every time we go and it is SO much fun!! We usually are so stuffed four countries in but we always forge on. Be sure to try Tangerine Cafe in Morocco..it is yummy!

We decided to try Kouzzina instead of Teppan Edo since we can eat hibachi at home. Also nixed Kona Cafe and made a reservation at 'Ohana instead. I feel more excited about these choices, so I think I'll stick with them! biggrin

Thank you all for your suggestions!

Ohana is great! If you could get an ADR there that's definitely a good choice. Oh the bread pudding..oh..oh...oh!!

It's a can't miss. I've never heard of anyone not liking it. Kona and Ohana are both good, but the pudding wins it for Ohana for me. I think you made a good choice with Kouzzina instead of Teppan Edo. I think it will be much more interesting.

I'd recommend Yak & Yeti in Animal Kingdom for lunch or Saana in the resort.
