Magical Express to be discontinued

https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/01/11/disney-worlds-magical-express-service-will-be-discontinued-in-2022/

This is such a bummer! It was so convenient and added some extra magic.

I wonder if the use of this service is down enough for it not to be worth it. A lot of people seem to be using ride share services because of how long it can take to your hotel from the airport. I wonder how many people ride on it versus how much luggage. A few people have stated that they use ME for thier luggage while they get a ride share to the hotel or parks. It also seems like a lot of people are also opting to get a rental as well because they dislike the transportation services on property. It truly is sad for those who do rely on this service for their vacation. At least, they told us now versus in a few months leaving people to scramble for the extra expenses this cost people.

I think that must be why. Not as many people using it anymore to make it worth it. Plus now with the pandemic, there are less people travelling and those who are, may not want to be on a bus with a bunch of strangers. Disney must be losing a lot of money these days and they have to make cuts somewhere sad

I heard that the contract with Mears is up and they wanted too much money. I also heard the the company that does the baggage laid everyone off due to COVID and is no longer in business. Not sure how true it is, but makes sense.

Definitely more people using ride shares and renting cars and I bet there were lots of people just using it for their luggage. We enjoyed it as we didn't have to worry about our luggage and we could just walk right there. I did not like waiting for the bus to fill up though. laugh

Not sure what we'll do when we do get back - maybe rent a vehicle?

I hate to see it go, but it's not the end of the world. People are losing it on Facebook over the discontinuation of the service. I'll probably just use a ride share after it is done.

Oof! I hate to hear this, DME was one of the biggest perks of staying at a Disney Resort for me. It's not like it will stop me from going but it is absolutely a loss as far as I'm concerned. I can see them pushing folks towards rail though once that is in, and with a station at Disney Springs they may not have to adjust the current on property bus routes all that much depending on where it is going.

The train is supposed to be ready to go sometime next year, so maybe they are trying to plan for that to be ready when DME ends.

That will only get guests to Disney Springs, so Disney would have to provide buses to the resorts that people can take their luggage on. Saw a post on the DVC Facebook page from a guest that had talked to Josh Damaro and he mentioned Disney was working on something better. Will be interesting to see what happens.

I completely trust that everyone is worrying their pretty little heads off for nothing because I feel like Disney usually has a plan set up and it usually works out just fine. I trust that Josh isn't lying about that.

Oh! That's an exciting thought. I thought DME was pretty great so the possibility of something even better is downright awesome.
