Our Short (but longer than expected) May Trip

So we finally made it back from the World. Weather didn't let us get out on our intended return date, but we managed to make it back yesterday. Of course then the weather turned nasty again, but at least we made it home. Got lots of pictures to post. Hopefully I can get it together and do so.

Anything new or different or especially fun on this trip, Brad? How were the crowds?

Crowds were awful. Way worse than we were expecting. I had to wait for DW to send me pictures. She downloaded all of them and then left for her vacation!

So here's a start.

We arrived on Thursday, can you guess where we ate?

We almost didn't take pictures since we've done Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch so many times! Ultimately we did pretty much the same thing we always do:

Tavern Fried Cheese
Pot Roast & Burger
Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake (one of my favorites anywhere)

That night we ate at the Bull and Bear Steakhouse. We were staying at the Waldorf so we made a point to eat there a bunch. I love eating in the hotel we're staying at. I can tell you this -- It was one of the best meals I've ever had in Orlando. It's a bit more expensive than typical signature dining in Disney World, but it was absolutely perfect.

I took a break there to start a separate thread about how awesome the Waldorf's view of Disney is. Nice sized balcony to relax out there too!

So anyway back to the pictures! My trip was a lot of sitting in my room working, so I'll skip around a bit.

We spent Saturday in the Magic Kingdom. We had some "nachos" at Casey's Corner, and while they are not in any way "nachos," I kind of enjoyed them. They were pretty much "chips with chili on them" but the chili isn't bad, so...

It was quite crowded and hot. Here's a shot from the cool balcony at Pinocchio's Village Haus:

We couldn't stay out there though, because it was TOO HOT.

Later on we got a chance to check out the new Haunted Mansion queue:

I think the interactive queue is a good addition, but it was terribly crowded and the line was barely moving for some reason. We mostly got to watch other people play with stuff. That being said I think they should do more and more of these interactive queues. It really makes the wait less bothersome. Especially if you haven't seen them before.

One of the highlight meals there was Whispering Canyon Cafe for lunch. I haven't done lunch there in a long time and it was really quite good. The service was a bit more subdued than I'm used to, but still "cheeky."

I couldn't resist the milkshake despite trying to be a bit more "moderate" than I usually am at WDW:

Food was good. Service was good. Great meal all around.

Things got a bit tricky when it was time to leave. The weather in Dallas was terrible apparently. We got to the airport and were delayed by several hours and then they finally canceled the flight. We went back to the Waldorf and begged for a room. The next day the weather was supposed to be bad again, but we managed to get out before it all descended upon us. Lots of tornadoes once we got back!

So our trip was a day longer than expected, but we didn't get to do much else except sit in the airport for some extra time. Overall it was a great trip. We had a bunch of great food, but we didn't get to do much Disney because of the heat and crowds. Apparently the week before it was cool and very un-crowded so I guess we just got a tad unlucky. It was still relaxing though because it gave me an excuse to stay in bed more (the Waldorf has great beds).

This does not make me feel sorry for you. At all. laugh laugh Do you have more pictures of the Waldorf?? It sounds heavenly. Does the Waldorf have buses? Or do you all drive yourself?

DW has more Waldorf shots. I'll try to get her to send me some. The Waldorf does have busses, but we drive. We also drive when we're on Disney property.

It was a pretty good milkshake and (for the good and the bad) you can get it refilled as much as you want.

I also should have mentioned that this:

Is probably to me the coolest part of the queue. It does a rhyming riddle and does voice recognition to see if you get the right answer. It was 100% accurate at recognizing what people said too, which is pretty impressive given that the clues use rhymes so everything the player says is probably going to sound pretty similar.

I told my Dad tonight that Whispering Canyon was officially on the top of my "Cant Wait" list. He looked at me because at first it was an ADR just to fill for not getting Ohana at first, and asked why... so I told him about the Milkshake. He laughed and said that would be on anyones top list. lol

We had a very good time there. I've never not enjoyed WCC. Was my first time daring to see if I could handle free-refills milkshakes. I had most of 2 so I'm not sure I passed the test.

I was thinking about this..and as excited as refillable milkshakes make me..I was wondering exactly how many one could enjoy before ralphing.

We shall call it "Milkshake Mania of November 2011". Should we take bets? I am going to say Mase can drink 3. Anyone?
