Resort T/S Restaurant ..

Good Morning Folks..Quick question here...Got a phone call last night from the family planning their first WDW vacation..Enquiring about table service restaurants at the resorts...Am I right in saying that no value resort has a table service restaurant.?..Not sure about AoA...Also in the moderates, which resort has the most popular one..I ate at Shutters way back in 2004 and to be honest I can't remember if it was any good..We were only at CBR for a week..I've never stayed at CSR so I can't comment on the Mayo Grill..( is that what it's called ) But twice I've dined at Boatwrights..First in 2008 and it was ok,nothing to shout about, but my second experience in 2012 was a massive improvement..I opted to try it after seeing the great recent reviews..Also another question to you good folk..How important is the TS restaurant when making a choice of resorts..For me, it's not high on my list..We were considering AKL this year, tho I'am gonna book an ADR in October at Jiko,as I reckon it's got three superb TS restaurants..But opted for WL as it's always been a dream of mine to stay there, and we will probably also make an ADR for AP..Your views people...

Here are the ones that I have tried and that I think is work trying: Boma for either breakfast or dinner; Jiko which required 2 TS, Sanaa; California Grill which also required 2 TS, Chef Mickey's for me is a one time and it is very loud, Mayo Grill (tried that last Octocber) and it was great, Narcoossee's which requires 2 TS, 1900 Park Fare; Ohana and am with you on Boatwright its an up and down type of restaurant.
I do not pick where I will stay based on the TS..what is important to me is the 2 sinks and that the sinks are separate from the rest (shower/tub, toilet).

King, I deleted the duplicate post you were trying to get rid of. All is OK.

You are correct--no TS dining at the Value resorts. We definitely don't pick our resort based on the dining options because the only time we've ever eaten at our resort has been for breakfast or quick service and we've only done that when staying at POR and CS. QS at POR was awesome (as you know, of course) and at CS at the time, it was horrible. I understand that CS has made some traffic flow and capacity changes that should help to resolve the problem.

Anyway, back on topic, the only resort table service we have done was 1900 Park Fare and we were not staying at GF at the time. I felt very rushed there (probably b/c character meal + custom omelets buffet style is a bad combination), but the food was excellent and they had exactly the characters that I was looking for. I heard a review of Shutters at CB right before our first trip that would make me steer clear indefinitely. I don't remember what site I was on (might have been a DIS unplugged podcast??) but it was 30 minutes of one negative experience after another. The guys doing the review were a riot and had definitely made the best of an awful dining experience, but after listening to them, there was no way I was eating at Shutters! In short, no Table Service options at Values, wouldn't go out of my way to do Table Service at Moderates. If I had to do TS at a moderate, Boatwrights would be my first pick to try.

I feel that your trip itinerary and your resort should go hand in hand. If you're someone who isn't going to spend a lot of time in the resort, then I don't think the resort restaurants matters at all, regardless if it's TS or not. But if you want days off away the parks and just relaxing at the actual resort you're staying, maybe for one day or two, then having a good restaurant doesn't matter too much because it's only for that one day. Now, if you want more days away from the parks and you're putting a greater emphasis on food in your trip, then you definitely want to consider staying at a place that has better food overall. This probably doesn't fit the mold of the average park guest though.

I can't speak from experience but I get the sense that generally speaking, the deluxes have the better food than the moderates and values put together. The deluxes, however, do have more options and signature dining for people who want something a little more. Better resort food and wanting to try something different is why I have the AKL on my bucket list. Food, at least for me, is now a bigger priority whenever my next trip may be. I still want time at the parks, don't get me wrong but I'm not satisfied of having a rush mentality to do everything in the parks and I really want to add more days where I can actually relax, away from the hustle and bustle of the parks and experience things I've never experienced in the past.

Plus I haven't tried much Indian-African influenced food in general and since I heard great reviews about the AKL food, I get the sense it is worth staying there because it's isolated from the other deluxes and it may be inconvienent for those who stay at the other deluxes or other resorts, in general. And additionally, I personally feel that I should take advantage of all the restaurants and eateries that offer food I can't find in my neck of the woods and if I were to give in to regular theme park staples, then it has to stand out in a good way and offer a different twist to it. A plain bacon double cheeseburger probably won't steer me to eat it. A kobe beef burger with Asian slaw, on a different note, definitely will.

Coronado's Mayan Grill is outstanding!!! It was one of our favorite breakfast buffets before they changed that and now don't serve breakfast at all.

Here are the others at which we've had recent experiences (within the last 2 years):

Buffets/Family Style:
1900 Park Fare...food was average; characters were a lot of fun; lots of in-character fun...Madhatter questioning why you were drinking coffee, etc...
Chef Mickey's...loud but fun; average food; some play with characters but not like at 1900 PF
Whispering Canyon...breakfast is the best; great staff and food
Trail's End...average food; not too crowded at breakfast, but full house at dinner; no characters
Captain's Grille...quiet at breakfast; better than average food; service is so-so

Dining:
Kona Cafe...awesome Tonga Toast & Pineapple Macadamia Nut Pancakes, the grits were really good too; great staff; preferred breakfast over dinner
Grand Floridian Cafe...awesome; lunch is busy but the menu was great; quick service but relaxing at the same time

Most of my resort dining experiences have been for breakfast. I would be willing to give them a try for other meals.

1900 Park Fare
Grand Floridian Cafe
Kona Cafe
Whispering Canyon
Olivia's
Captain's Grille

For dinner I've eaten at

Yachtsman Steakhouse (one of my favorites)
Califorina Grill
Chef Mickey's (one time was enough for me)

Table service at the resort didn't matter to us at all because we only stayed at Value resorts which don't have any
