Side Items...

How flexable are Disney restaurants when it comes to changing orders? Look over the menus all places have certain side dishes. I particularly can not stand mashed potatoes (I am the only fat kid on earth who doesn't like them). So many entrees I would typically order come with them. Will they allow substitutions like fries or vegtable of the day instead?

I'm sure every restaurant is different with policies or what can be switched out due to prices and what not, but Disney is pretty accomodating with that type of thing. I would definitely just ask your server if you're considering a dish but just don't like the side it comes with.

I've never had a problem, just tell your server that you hate them and ask if you can get something else. Disney is pretty flexible in it's food policies.

Likewise I have never had a problem of any kind for any substitution request. Just ask and it has always been granted.

Thanks every one! They never listed sides so it had me concearned. With the amount of people they serve I thought they may be strict about it do to time constraints.

Hah! I can't stand mashed potatoes, either. And I am not exactly svelte, if you get my drift.

As for substitutions, I can't answer your question because I make a point of not ordering anything that comes with mashed potatoes.

Yep -- they should be very flexible at table service places. I switch out sides all the time! Counter service might be a bit more difficult, but they'll definitely do it. If you have a problem with the CM taking your order, ask for a manager.

I've never had a problem substituting side dishes, though I have never asked to switch to a pricier item either. The staff deal with food allergies and picky eaters all the time and keeping things magical means accommodating their customers.

Your options can be pretty limited at QS restaurants though. You might be able to order a double-side of green beans or the kid's meal option of carrots, grapes, or apple slices.

Never hesitate to ask though. After a very tiring day at the MK, I ended up ordering a meal at the Columbia Harbour House QS restaurant. The meal on the menu stated that the chicken breast strips came with fries, a soft drink, and desert. The older gentleman taking my order seemed to notice my frustration at the lack of healthy choices and offered to switch the fries to broccoli and let me take two bottles of orange juice with me for breakfast the next morning instead of having a Coke and cake. Totally made my day (and I think his too)!

Have done this a few times myself just because I haven't felt like eating whatever the side was and have never had an problems! I can't recall any extra charges either. I remember doing this a lot in the quick services in both AKL and SSR
