Taratru's (why not?) C2C pre-trip report

Here I go again! I only need one more day to finish my November report...perhaps that should be my goal before Christmas break is over? laugh

Heading to Disneyland in January for the Tinkerbell 10K and Half. I signed up for these the very first day last summer and have been SO excited. I'm traveling with a friend and two of her friends. We are staying on property at Paradise Pier, which is a first for me. The only downer going into these two trips is that I've been sidelined again with my Achilles injury. I have an MRI on Monday and then my ortho is out of town for a bit, so my follow up is on the 22nd. He has already told me I'll probably be in a boot for a few months after that. So I'm trying to milk all I can right now in the working out area to keep my fitness up for Tink as much as I can. Princess? Well, we'll see. I really really really want that coast 2 coast pink medal and I'm pretty sure I could walk it in plenty of time if I start in my front corral. Anyway...on to the report!

Friday, Jan. 17
arrive in Orange County at 1:25. I think we're doing Super Shuttle to Paradise Pier. Check in, head to the expo! Pick up everything and then head to DL for the night! Back early, though, as I'm running the 10K the next morning.

Saturday, Jan 18
10K race! The start is at 6am. I'm planning on pushing this one as much as I can. I'm hoping the altitude drop will really help this weekend, to make up for the only cardio I'm doing which is on a spin bike. Smile Have a 9:30 Steakhouse 55 brunch reservation. Then, hit the parks! I'm hoping my roomies can get fastpasses for CarsLand while I'm showering after the race. We are planning on eating cheap this trip, but I want to hit Plaza Inn.

Sunday, Jan 19
Half race! Start is 5am. Yikes!!! I will be taking it easy here. I haven't decided if I will start up front and just walk/run or start in the back with my friends. Game time decision after the 10K, I guess. After it's all over, we'll be in the parks. We have a reservation at Wine Country Trattoria for World of Color viewing that night. Woo! This will be my first time seeing the show and I'm uber stoked!

Monday, Jan 20
Head home. Sad But not until 2:45, so I think we will do rope drop at DL this morning (maybe at DCA if we miss fastpasses on Saturday?) and grab breakfast at Carnation Cafe? Will do park until about noon. Then home...womp womp.

BUT

I GET MORE!!!! With my injury, I would normally just defer until 2015 or sell my bib. But my roommate is counting on me sharing the room cost and I'm still going to the conference after race weekend at Universal (already paid for by my school and totally necessary). So my darling husband says, "JUST GO." I love him. Depending on the news on the 22nd and on how I'm feeling, I will either defer (sucks to wait...it will cost $35 more to wait that long to decide) or just try to walk it. If I could defer and apply my registration to Goofy/Dopey 2015 or even Wine and Dine 2014, I would. But deferring to Princess 2015 means I have to go, when I'd rather try to do Goofy/Dopey with the family (especially now that Boston 2015 is not in the picture). PLUS, the pink coast to coast medal!!!! I want it. I want it bad. Smile

Thurs, Feb 20
Arrive MCO at 4:05. DME to Pop. Check in, head over to expo and pick up stuff. Yay! Easy night at the resort...maybe head over to A of A for dinner?

Fri, Feb 21
No idea, but we have ADRs at Via Napoli at 6:20pm for pre-race pizza. YUM. So I imagine we'll be at Epcot. I'm really thinking about no-hoppers this trip to save some $...thoughts? I'd like to do some resort hopping as opposed to park hopping, ya know? Can you say Cupcake Crawl? Monorail Drinking Tour? mickey

Sat, Feb 22
ADR at Yak & Yeti at 4:45pm this day, so probably a day at AK! I'm hoping to ride Everest ELEVENTY billion times.

Sun, Feb 23
RACE DAY! We'll see how this goes. Start time is 5:30am. Post race plan is MK! We have BOG dinner reservations at 6:50 with another internet running friend. I'm so excited! I will shut this park down. Smile

Mon, Feb 24
Departure day...sort of. Will check out of Pop and send my bags over to Boardwalk for one night! Have ADR for breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table at 9:05am. Probably stay in MK until my roomie leaves and then head over to BW. Check in to BW. Here's where hopping would help...I could spend the evening wandering Epcot. OR, go to Jellyrolls or some other resort to eat/hang...Poly beach?

Tues, Feb 25
Check out of Boardwalk and head to DHS for the day, if I don't do hopping the days before. At the tail end of this day, I will shuttle over to Universal for my conference.

Wed, Feb 26-Fri, Feb 28
Conference! What is lame though, is that the conference goes until 5 each day and Universal closes at 7?!?! Who closes at 7?!? So I might actually not do Disney on Tuesday and head to Universal for at least that day. Anyone have any ideas there?

Fri, Feb 28
Depart MCO at 3:50 pm.

Whew!!!! Are you still here after all of that?!? I'm tired just thinking about it. That should feed my need for a bit...until the Disneyland Half on Labor Day and a probable return to Wine and Dine Half for the F&W Festival... sheesh.

The boot makes me so sad. But you're coming home with 6 medals between the trips, so who needs an Achilles??!! lol. Wish I'd gotten in to Glass Slipper, but that's 2015's goal!!! If you need a (slow) pacer, let me know. I run/walk 3/1 and take a zillion pictures.

Hey, on a serious note, I highly recommend (in addition to the MRI/ortho route) trying Graston therapy for soft tissue issues (unless of course, something is torn). It hurts like a you-know-what but it's done wonders for my plantar fasicitis and piriformis issues. May not work in your particular situation, but thought I'd throw it out there.

No, just 4 medals - there's no "challenge" for Tink 10k and Half (boo!), so two there, and I didn't get into GSC either, so just half and C2C. But four Disney medals is pleeeenty! And I've got more coming this year, DL half bib (from deferring 2013) and probably another W&D (so another C2C, too).

Graston's is my next step, or even ART, if nothing is torn. Doc thinks there are a bunch of microtears, though, which is why all that massage and stretching isn't really working. Sad Oh well...I've at least got Tink to run the best I can. Smile And now I have fun costumes started...something I would never do if I was at full strength. clapping
