Thanksgiving Trip

Good Morning Good Morning! (Thanks Figgy)

I have a couple questions about our November trip.

We are going the week of Thanksgiving and I was not planning on doing any park days. Well, I got to thinking about the Osborne Lights and that plan went right out the window. Have any of you been during Thanksgiving? Is it as busy as say Christmas or New Years. I don't want to go and fight massive crowds. I am thinking maybe a park hopper with Epcot in the AM and HS in the evening... Can you boat between the two? I feel like I read that on here somewhere...

Next question, have any of you DVC members done the Wednesday night member bowling at Splitsville? Just wondering if it's worth it to do. It's either going to be that or La Nouba. (maybe both if I am really nice to Joe until then) silly

One last one, I can't remember if I mentioned this somewhere or not.... waiting TotWL... Kids or no??? Was thinking of watching the fireworks up there one night.

Still deciding on Spirit of Aloha and then I got to thinking Raglan Road... I better hurry, the 180 day mark will be her shortly!

Thanks!

Yes you can boat from epcot to HS. it makes stops at the resorts on the way there. I've never been thanksgiving week so I'm not sure how crazy it is.
La Nouba is awesome awesome

Yes, kids are a loud in Top of the World lounge, just not unattended. We never did Thanksgiving week, always the week after and we have alway heard the parks are mobbed that week. We usually arrived the Saturday after Thanksgiving and it is still rather busy until Sunday when most people leave.

You can take a boat from HS to EPCOT, but I do think you have to change boats once. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Never did the bowling thing but I would do La Nouba over that anytime.

The boat leaves from the international gateway entrance area of EPCOT and makes a round trip from there to Boardwalk, Yacht/Beach club, Swan & Dolphin, and finally the dock outside Hollywood Studios. You do not have to change boats, but the overall journey can take some time with all the stops depending on how many people are getting off/on at each stop. I think it might actually be quicker to walk, although I haven't actually done that (yet wink )

It is definitely faster to walk - the whole ride can be 45 minutes! eek

I have been there the week after Thanksgiving and it was the emptiest I've ever seen it. Literally walking on rides.

I was afraid of the "mobbed" part, but also planning on it at the same time... We just decided that since we both have time off (well, for the first time in 4 years I took time off) we would go.

Joe and I have seen La Nouba (Blondie has been to a couple other cirque shows) We LOVED it! She likes bowling too so maybe both just to keep us occupied.

I may look into the walking thing. I don't want to tire Blondie out too much but maybe a 45 minute boat ride would be the rest we all need! (me seeing a silver lining?)

No unattended kids at TotWL??? Thank goodness LOL But sometimes even the attended ones are less than desired...

You don't have to change boats on the boat ride, but the walk is definitely faster. It can be a nice, relaxing break though. DH took a nap on our trip from DHS to Epcot once, but I like staying up and taking a peek at the resorts!

awesome Thanks Allie. I looked at the crowd calendar on a couple of sites. The day I was thinking of doing a park day is the least crowded of the week for Epcot AND HS so I think we will do it!

I am calling today about Splitsville and La Nouba. When I am on the DVC site, it only shows June shows. Can you only book a month in advance on the DVC site??? I don't like calling and holding. I like the fast easy interwebs way!

I've taken the boat once and wouldn't do it again. The concept is fun but it was SO SO SO hot on that boat. There are only teeny tiny windows and minimal breeze so unless you can get a seat outside (there's only a couple) you could be VERY warm. I was at the point of needing some AC so I was just dying to get off the boat. The little boat over to Wilderness Lodge was much more enjoyable.
(I just remembered you're going on November. Boat temperature might not be such an issue!) Smile

DH and I have gone to WDW for the last 3 Thansgivings and this year will be the 4th. We won't go to MK on Thanksgiving day because of the HUGE crowds there, but we find the other parks very manageable that week.

To avoid the crowds at Osborne lights, wait for at least two hours after they light them and you'll be able to freely walk down the street without a large crowd. We always go to the lights about 1 hour before the park closes. Some nights there are very few people still there that late.

We love Thanksgiving week. We go a day before Thanksgiving, and leave Sunday. Of course there are crowds, but it''s not anywhere near as busy as the parks a few days before Christmas.

Thank you so much Annie! I think we have decided on Wed as our park day. We are going to AKL in the morning and HS in the evening. The Osborne tip is going to be very helpful!!! awesome yay

The other days are going to be filled with shopping at Downtown Disney, (Which Blondie said is her favorite LOL "Mom, it's Disney AND it's downtown!!!") laugh dinners at other resorts, putt putt, La Nouba and more!
