What! No prizes?

I just heard today that due to a change in Florida law, the arcades are changing property-wide. Apparently there is a Florida law that says something to the effect that no awards can be given for games of chance. Although the law is directed at curbing illegal gambling operations, Disney is eliminating anything that could be construed to be out of compliance with this law.

Sooo...the arcade in the Space Mountain gift shop is closing entirely and for all of the other arcades, the claw machines and the prize counters to being removed and games that previously gave tickets based on your score will no longer give tickets. Apparently I will no longer be rewarded with candy for my skeeball playing abilities. sad

What?! I'm not super upset about losing the arcade as we never go there, but that seems so weird.

On the plus side, it makes me glad that I made Benn stop back at the Contemporary arcade to spend our points before we came home instead of saving points over many trips for a big prize. mickey

That's crazy. I sorta gave up on game rooms at Disney. Contemporary used to have the most amazing game room, but they took it out a long time ago (the 90's?). Now all the game rooms are replaced by what seems like mostly those money sucking games. They are more like slot machines than games. Whoever is the buyer for the arcades should be fired. He is more interested in making money than getting the good games in.

I remember that game room, it was ah-mazing! There was a cartoonist that would draw your portrait, and air hockey tables, and a snack bar. We used to stop there on every trip!
