What's Up With The Wonky April at WDWFG?

Hello hello! yay

As I'm sure many of you have noticed, things have been a bit slow with the site the past couple of weeks. While WDWFG has a a great team of people that work together to get things done, but as far as the newsletter, feature articles, news scheduling, forum over-site goes, that all falls on my shoulders.

On April 6th, I was coming out of the grocery store, and missed the step down off the curb. I landed very badly, and broke my ankle in three different places. Told that it was far too swollen to operate on (I'm getting lots of fun pins and plates put into it) I was put on bedrest for a week, then told it was still swollen and given another week of bedrest. I was able to keep up somewhat while on bedrest, but the medications slowed me down. wheelchair

Finally on the 21st I was scheduled to have surgery this week, but by the afternoon of the 22nd it was obvious that I had developed a virulent case of pneumonia in 4/5 of my lung lobes. This won me my second ambulance ride to the ER, where I was admitted, and spent a lovely (?) weekend. waiting

I am extremely pleased with the way the WDWFG team all pulled together to help cover my unexpected absence. We may have come to a bit of a crawl, but the site is still moving forward - just like Uncle Walt would want us to. Traci has been pulling double time with news and some feature articles, Melissa has picked up feature articles, and I'm always grateful for the way Mr. Hub and Vettelover help to watch over the forums and keep things moderated. muchlove

I am happy to say - I am now home! I'm going to try and get a ton of things done over the next few days. Please be aware though that I will be heading in to finally have surgery on my ankle this Thursday, so you may notice some continued hiccups for the next week or two. We'll be back up to full speed shortly - until then I thank you for your continued support for Walt Disney World for Grown-ups.

Seriously, take care of yourself and don't worry about anything else. Even if the aforementioned folks weren't doing a fine job keeping things running here, we'd all manage while you recover. Hope everything goes smoothly and you're back on your feet soon.

Thanks so much for your well wishes and understanding everyone! WDWFG is truly a labor of love for me and I feel horrible when things don't go as smoothly as I like them too. I just have to keep reminding myself that I'm only one person, and at the moment that's a sick and injured person.

JMed - I'm so happy for you that you were on the boat! My adventures, while exciting, have not been fun. I wish I could have been there with ya. muchlove

Hello everyone! Thank you so much for the well wishes. mickey

I'm a week out from my surgery now, and I'm starting to lower the doses of pain killers that have been keeping me asleep most of that time. They were only able to fix 2 out of the 3 breaks in my ankle, but they placed a couple of extra screws to help hold the unstable area a little more tightly together. It's another 6-8 weeks before I can bear any weight on it, and we really haven't talked about farther out than that, other than me needed a screw removal surgery in about a year. This is a long term recovery project. waiting

I'm hoping to be back on the forums, and doing some behind the scenes work over the next few days to catch up on everything I've been missing. biggrin Plus my fingers are crossed for being alert enough to get back to writing by mid-next week, that really depends on how minimal we can get the pain medication down to. crossfingers

I feel like I turned a corner about two days ago from being really broken and ill to more on the gaining strength and recovery side. My friends say that I sound more like myself on the phone, I've been able to get some work done, and I've started eating again. I think I'm finally on the road to recovery. muchlove
